This position is part of a specialized team that manufactures in vitro diagnostic reagents utilizing Immunofluorescent Assay (IFA) technology. This technology, which is employed in clinical laboratories around the world, utilizes cellular substrates applied to microscope slides, serum control preparations and fluorescent conjugates as the primary manufactured components of these assays. These reagents, along with a patient sample, are reacted together in a specific sequence and then viewed with a fluorescence microscope to determine the presence or absence of various autoimmune diseases.
Responsibilities of the position may include culturing adherent mammalian cell lines, purification of cellular blood components and manufacturing substrate slides. Full training on the various techniques and processes used to produce these products will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in learning about the manufacture of biotechnological products in an industrial setting.
Specific duties of the position may include the following:Participates in the culturing, harvesting and purification of cells used to manufacture IFA substrate slides.Assists with the preparation of IFA substrate slides using either manual or automated manufacturing equipment according to established procedures.Sets-up, calibrates, operates, cleans and/or performs routine maintenance on laboratory and manufacturing equipment.Assists with the evaluation of raw materials, equipment and process validation protocols and product/process improvement projects.Participates in maintaining the laboratory area in a clean and orderly state.
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
This position requires a B.S. or B.A. degree in biology, biochemistry or a related scientific field with 0 to 1 years of academic or industrial laboratory experience. Previous hands-on experience using common laboratory equipment such as pH meters, microscopes, centrifuges, micropipettes and fume hoods is required. Familiarity with mammalian cell culture, QSR/cGMP regulations or ISO requirements is highly desirable, but not required. Individuals possessing an affinity for teamwork, a high level of attention to detail and a tolerance for periods of repetitive work are particularly well suited to handle the demands of this position. The workdays for this position are Monday through Friday, with the potential for some overtime or weekend duties. The working hours may vary from the normal 7:30 am to 4:00 pm shift to the hours of 6:30 am to 3:00 pm depending on the daily schedule.
