EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
·At a minimum the equivalent of three years of education at an accredited college or university; B.S. preferred
·Minimum 5 years of construction materials testing experience
·Minimum of two years supervisory experience in a materials testing environment
·ACI Certification in Strength, Field, or both, a plus
·ATTI Certification in Soils/Aggregate Asphalt or ability to obtain
·Knowledge of modern engineering methods and techniques relative to engineering specifications for construction materials sampling and testing
·Knowledge of engineering theory, principles, and practices, relative to materials testing
·Knowledge of college level mathematics to include second-semester algebra and second semester geometry; entry-level calculus a plus
·Knowledge of construction materials standards and approved testing methodologies as established by ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, and ADOT
·Knowledge of necessary computer programs to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), gINT

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
·Establishes work standards
·Determines the number and qualifications of personnel, as well as the equipment and material necessary, to satisfy workload demands
·Directs and coordinates a staff of laboratory technicians in the testing of a wide variety of materials to determine their chemical and physical properties
·Is responsible for ensuring that the different areas of the laboratory have the necessary resources to handle the workload
·Serves as liaison with laboratory managers and senior technicians
·Monitors testing activity to ensure that tests are properly performed, samples and test results are properly logged, technicians are receiving proper training, monitoring technician attendance; and coordinating and reporting to the Laboratory Manager(s) the status of the laboratory and the laboratory requirements
·Performs related work as required
·Assists QA/QC Committee to maintain AASHTO and ADOT accreditation

SAMPLING/TEST PROCEDURES
Must be able to perform all of the sampling and testing procedures performed in the lab

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
·Must possess strong communication skills
·Written - Must be able to write technical reports, detailing results, and conclusions with correct grammar and spelling
·Must be able to prepare training/teaching materials
·Must be able to clearly and effectively deliver instructions to technical staff
·Must be able to effectively respond to questions from department managers, project managers, technicians, clients, and governmental agencies
·Must be able to express reasons/solutions for errors/problems that occur in test data
·Must be able to conduct training/teaching sessions
·Computer - Should be able to generate, review and proof final reports; must be able to verify correct pricing

PERSONAL SKILLS
·Must be dependable, punctual, and reliable; must demonstrate ability to complete projects in a timely manner
·Should demonstrate an interest in the work and the ability to work well with others
·Should demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, subordinates, clients, and governmental agencies

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
·Must be physically able to perform the duties required of the other technicians that report to him
