Biophysicist Post Doc Fellow - Genomics

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is located in the San Francisco Bay Area on a 200-acre site in the hills above the University of California’s Berkeley campus and is managed by the University. A leader in science and engineering research for more than 75 years, LBNL is the oldest of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Laboratories.

The Physical Biosciences Division of LBNL has an immediate opportunity for a Biophysicist Postdoc Fellow to be a part of the Department of Energy (DOE) Genomics: GTL (GTL) project. The GTL research program focuses on developing technologies to understand and use the diverse capabilities of plants and microbes for innovative solutions to the DOE energy and environmental mission challenges. This postdoc fellow opportunity involves conducting computational (bioinformatics) studies aimed at assembling and analyzing the protein interaction network, particularly conserved molecular machines, in microbial organisms.

Key Responsibilities:

Apply methods of computational biology to the analysis of microbial protein-protein interactions
Develop computational methods for analysis of protein interaction networks in microbes including, but not limited to, the following:
-Complex identification by graphical clique finding
-Integration of multiple experimental data types
-Identification of conserved complexes among microbes
-Macromolecular recognition and interactions (docking)
-Analysis of cellular pathways and networks REQUIREMENTS

Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biophysics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, recently earned within 2-3 years
Demonstrated background in computer programming (e.g., C++, Python, PERL)
Working knowledge of molecular biology, and macromolecular structure and functional relationship
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research as evidenced by publications in scientific, peer reviewed journals
Strong verbal and written communication skills sufficient to work effectively within a team and synthesize data from multiple research groups
Demonstrated background in computational biology is highly preferred as well as background in machine learning and/or graph theory
