VP Accounting Policies

Major Financial Services Company seeks someone with Insurance Industry experience.

This position will provide the candidate with an opportunity to work with a world-class Accounting Policy team in a fast-paced, fluid environment. This individual will develop and maintain close advisory relationships with senior business unit leaders supporting insurance and reinsurance teams. This individual should be a highly technical, ethical and skilled accountant who has strong communication skills and a focus on client service.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Possess a broad understanding of the insurance and reinsurance business, transactional information flows and accounting standards
• Implement and apply accounting policies under U.S. GAAP, with specific focus on insurance transactions
• Evaluate complex transactions and form a view on how to best account for the transactions
• Communicate views and clearly articulate basis for conclusions
• Involvement in US GAAP and Statutory reporting decisions
• Interface with public accounting firms and actuaries on insurance accounting matters
• Analyze impact of deal positions, in accordance with insurance-related accounting guidance, including SOP 03-1 and SFAS 60, 97, 113, 133
• Highly familiar with AICPA Life and Health Insurance and Property and Liability Insurance Audit Guides
• Liaise with the Tax Group, Financial Reporting, Legal Group, DMR, Regulatory, Corporate Treasury, Operations, GSAM Controllers, Equity Derivative Controllers, Reinsurance Team & external advisors
REQUIREMENTS
Experience/Skills:

• Degree in Accounting, CPA and Big Four background preferred
• 3 + years insurance and/or reinsurance experience, other financial service industry experience a plus
• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
• Understanding of financial deal structure
• Takes initiative and works independently and accurately with minimum supervision
• Able to work in a team and meet commitments
• Committed to a career in financial services
• Inquisitive and enthusiastic
• Good PC skills (Excel, Word)
