Underwriting Advisor, Bond

The Ohio Casualty Insurance Company is hiring for an Underwriting Advisor, Bond to work jointly with field staff in producing, underwriting, and servicing fidelity and surety business within an assigned territory of bond service centers. Ensure underwriting decisions are in accordance with and in support of corporate and departmental objectives. Provide guidance and assistance to all field personnel in handling more difficult accounts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develops and evaluates underwriting/risk information necessary to accept or decline new or renewal business in accordance with underwriting guidelines.

Provides guidance to bond service center staff in handling accounts. Exercises underwriting and financial authority as to the merits of all types of risks, and accepts or declines new or renewal business as submitted by the bond service center within and in excess of the bond service center underwriting authority.

Maintains knowledge of rating procedures and requirements, company fidelity and/or surety forms, and forms (state, local, municipal) commonly required in bond service center territories.

Maintains knowledge of the following practices, laws, and procedures:

Instruction and Limits of Authority Booklet.
Branch Office Letter Manual.
Bond Procedures Manual.
State insurance laws as they relate to fidelity and/or surety bonds.

Monitors internal processes and procedures to ensure quality output and efficient handling of mail, bond requests, premium booking, and file maintenance.

Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with home office underwriting and claim staff. Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with bond service center staff by:

Helping them identify and develop new or enhanced business opportunities.
Assisting them in educating agency staffs about products, services, and underwriting standards.
Providing information about fidelity and/or surety industry production, loss ratios, and laws that may affect the bond service center territories.
Assisting in rectifying accounting discrepancies.
Assists department officers and underwriting managers in reviews of bond service center personnel.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

Excellent understanding of the fidelity/surety industry; demonstrated fidelity and/or surety underwriting skills

Good understanding of the insurance industry

Good organizational and prioritization skills

Good interpersonal skills
