Senior Database Administrator

Our team has an opportunity for an experienced DBA who can immediately begin to add value to the area.
The candidate should have strong working knowledge of Sybase and Oracle. Candidate would be expected to execute multiple internal infrastructure projects as well as day-to-day supporting of the Unix/DBA Projects and Unix/DBA Support teams.
The candidate should also be versed in relational database management internals for purposes of query and application tuning. Emphasis will be on tuning for improved performance and mitigation of increasing capacity demands through performance tracking/reporting. Candidate will also develop, test and document group-wide database standards. Candidate will monitor existing database patch levels and determine/direct the version upgrades for all core infrastructure database components.

The candidate would provide database expertise as either the lead on internal, database-only projects or potentially serve as a virtual team member (VTM) for larger projects or cross-discipline issues that could include representatives from multiple Technical Services teams.
All database staff rotate through the on-call list and will be expected to provide after-hours support for the production environment. REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
The candidate should have significant (6+ years) DBA experience primarily with Sybase or as in an Sybase/Oracle combination. A record of working effectively with other teams and within a cross-functional team is important. Understanding of project development cycle also important in support of internal or IPLC projects.

Experience in relational database architecture is a plus. The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to learn new technologies quickly and be able to transfer knowledge to others. CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS - Skills Required:
Experience with minimum of Oracle 9i, preferably would also know 10g.
Experience with Sybase 11.9.2 or above

Performance analysis and tuning is critical, Oracle and Sybase P&T utilities.

Software and/or hardware replication technologies.

Experience with BMC Patrol, DBArtisan, SQL Backtrack or similar backup strategy.

Strong problem solving skills.
Ability to understand and address Oracle Very Large Database (VLDB) issues and Oracle Partitioning.

Should be able to work with existing data models and naming conventions

Knowledge of UNIX OS and shell scripting a plus
Some exposure to project management and planning skills
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere
Should work effectively with a minimum of direction

Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Willingness and ability to handle on-call duties

Knowledge of database High Availability technologies a plus
