This role is a key member of a small legal team supporting a national mortgage lender. This individual will be principally responsible for providing compliance services to Bear Stearns Residential Mortgage Corporation’s (“BSRMC’s”) retail lending channels. Duties will include: active involvement in BSRMC’s legal activities in the areas of regulatory compliance; providing advice to BSRMC’s Retail Lending business leaders and managers on compliance matters including consumer regulatory issues, marketing, fair lending and privacy; serving as the central point of contact for requests for Retail Lending compliance services and coordinating with other members of BSRMC’s Legal Department on the provisions of compliance services to BSRMC’s Retail Lending business.
Essential Job Functions
•Review and advise Retail Lending business leaders and managers regarding consumer regulatory issues, marketing, fair lending and privacy issues.
•Provide support, as needed, to BSRMC’s Wholesale Lending channels.
•Responsible for building, improving and maintaining relationships with business unit leaders.
•Actively participate in the development of new products, policies and procedures for mortgage loan originations and in the modification and revision of existing products, documents, policies and procedures to reflect recent changes in the law and corporate policy.
•Keep abreast of all legislative and regulatory developments affecting retail mortgage lending activities.
•Assume responsibility for special projects as assigned.
•Oversee training and education seminars for Retail Lending leaders, managers and staff regarding regulatory and transactional issues affecting their business unit.
•Interact with outside counsel to coordinate legal services as requested by BSRMC.
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements
•Minimum of four years of regulatory compliance experience.
•Strong verbal communication and listening skills. Ability to communicate effectively both with internal and external customers.
•Work effectively in a small team environment.
Desired Skills
•Previous experience in the mortgage industry addressing regulatory compliance matters.
Other
•Extended hours may be required as needed, including Weekends/Evenings/Holidays.
•Occasional travel may be required.
