Investment Operations Manager
Responsible for managing 50+ staff in Chicago and New York City that support Northern Trust Global Investments, a premier provider of Investment solutions to institutional and personal clients worldwide. The Investment Operations teams are responsible for trade support, reconciliations, corporate actions and other process, reporting and control functions that support a variety of investment products.
Ideal candidate is a seasoned Investment Operations manager, with a proven track record of integrating functions in a controlled, growth environment. Candidate has a strong background in both domestic and international trading.
Accountable for the performance management process and staffing for the unit. Participates in developing the strategic plan and manages the unit's expenses. Identifies and implements changes to the investment operations procedures ensuring bank and regulatory policy adherence.
Major duties:
1. Manages a investment operation unit or function. Conducts the performance management process, identifies training and development needs, and establishes performance standards for the unit.
2. Determines staffing needs, makes hiring and firing decisions, handles salary administration, and ensures resources are available to accomplish priorities.
3. Participates in developing the business unit strategic plan and sets goals and priorities based on the direction set for the unit. Follows through to ensure objectives are met.
4. Develops unit(s) budget and manages the expenses for the unit.
5. Provides leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment which encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication.
6. Manages several operation processes including trade support, cash projections, reconciliations, corporate actions, pricing, .
7. Develops policies for effective handling of new situations. Ensures compliance with applicable security rules and regulations.
8. Interacts with other operation areas to coordinate functions.
9. Analyzes records of security transactions identifying deficiencies in control procedures, duplication of operations, or lack of compliance with established bank policies and industry regulations.
10. Ensures that adequate training/cross training is provided for all employees.
REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of the investment operations and security instruments, usually acquired through experience, is required to coordinate operating functions. Knowledge of laws and regulations governing the investments industry, usually acquired through formal education or experience, is required to monitor impact on the operating function. Leadership and organizational skills are required to determine the unit goals, resources needed, and to assess and develop the skills of the staff.
Experience:
5-7 years of investment operations experience that includes managerial responsibilities.
