Financial Service Advisor ("Personal Banker")

POSITION PURPOSE
Provide counseling, origination, and sales of the financial products and services offered by First Northern Credit Union. This includes processing new accounts, follow-up and relationship building with new and existing members, interviewing and counseling members with any savings or loan product/service offered. You must also prepare savings and loan applications for approval, cross-sell products or services as opportunities arise, and underwrite certain savings products. Participate in, and/or coordinate special departmental projects.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

1.New Account Responsibilities

a.Open new membership accounts.

b.As part of a welcoming program, you will be responsible for initial member contact along with various member follow-ups.

c.At the time new accounts are opened you will be expected to identify and cross-sell First Northern products. You should also be prepared to discuss our products in relation to competitor products, which the member may already have.

2.Lending Responsibilities

a.Prepare complete loan work-ups, including any required calculations, documentation, and discussion with members to ensure that an accurate application is presented for a loan decision.

b.Explain reasons for denial and explore options (counter offers) for members when loans are denied.

c.Schedule appointments and close real estate loans. For those real estate loans that must be closed by an outside source, coordinate the scheduling of an appointment with the borrower and closing agent.

d.Verify final legal documents received to properly secure the loan prior to funds disbursement.

e.Prepare disbursement and security (collateral) screens within the Aftech system for a Processor to properly post the loan transaction.

f.Assist members with information on the status of pending loans as requested by the member.

g.Follow-up with members on pre-approved loans to ensure the best possible member service.

h.Respond to phone inquiries regarding loans, blue book values, transfers, liens, etc.

i.Assist with loan servicing issues as required.



3.Savings Related Responsibilities

a.Fully prepare any required documents, including any required calculations, documentation, and discussion with members to ensure accurate applications for visa debit or checking account decisions.

b.Underwrite Visa Debit and checking account decisions.

c.Educate the membership about the various benefits and features of the savings and investment vehicles offered at First Northern.

4.General Responsibilities

a.Explain financial products and services to members, evaluating their needs and recommending the credit union's best available options.

b.Assist members with the savings and loan application process to ensure completeness of information.

c.Obtain and evaluate credit bureau reports on applicants. Resolve member complaints regarding loan, Visa Check Card, or checking account decisions.

d.Cross-sell credit union services. Recommend cross sales for approval to underwriting personnel. Follow-up with the member on those products not elected by the member at that time.

e.Other duties may be required and assigned including the possibility of assisting fellow employees, overtime hours (for which you will be compensated), and departmental projects.

REQUIREMENTS
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

1.Ability to develop new member relationships with consistent ongoing follow-up and by analyzing and determining their needs. Minimum standards will be set during your annual review period.

2.Ability to sell FNCU products and reach established goal set by Manager.

3.Ability to compile data, process information, follow up, schedule and disburse loans is an accurate and timely manner.

4.Ability to submit accurate monthly incentives tracking forms and supporting documents.

5.Ability to successfully pass assigned training courses established by manager.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: High School or equivalent. Some college preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Working knowledge of computer spreadsheet and word processing programs.
Have a basic working concept of the internet.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Two years of Financial Services Experience. Credit Union experience preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly.
Ability to input figures on a computer keyboard and operate an adding machine.

TALKING: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.

AVERAGE HEARING: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
Ability to hear clearly through a telephone receiver.

FINGER DEXTERITY: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.

AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.
