The Structured Finance Department includes: Asset-Backed Securities, Letter of Credit, Synthetic Securities, Residential Mortgages, Real Estate Finance, Surveillance, Collateralized Debt Obligations and Derivative Ratings.
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT
The development of residential mortgage-backed securities in the 1970's marked the first step in the evolution of today's diverse structured finance market. Standard & Poor's played a pivotal role from the start, being the leading credit rating service to evaluate mortgage-backed securities. Today, with competition increasing, volumes growing and spreads narrowing, our Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities Group continues to respond to the market's needs both in the United States and around the world. Our innovative mortgage scoring and risk grading techniques are providing new ways to evaluate exposure.
Standard & Poor'S Residential Mortgage Group covers a broad spectrum of transactions backed by residential mortgage collateral. These include: Prime Residential Loans, Jumbo, Alternative A, Supreme (Home Equity) Loans, 2ND Lien Loans, Scratch & Dent Loans, Non and Re-performing Loans, Tax Liens and Reverse Mortgages.
Responsibilities
An Associate rating Residential Mortgage Assets under the guidance of assigned Project Leads, Analytical Managers, Analytical Coordinators and Client Value Managers, performs the following functions:To analyze pertinent information and data necessary for rating determination of transactions on more complicated asset types and structures. To recommend ratings to the committee, prepare material for publication rating and communicate effectively Standard & Poor's methodology and procedures to clients. An Associate is also responsible for meeting with issuers and investors. Primary Analytical Rating contact duties will also be part of the Associate's responsibilities. As the Primary Ratings Contact, you will assist the Client Value Managers with the client, answering and resolving all clients' needs and assessing the client's quarterly volume. The Associate should possess the knowledge and ability to develop and recommend criteria for new issues consistent with existing Standard & Poor's criteria. The Associate will write criteria pieces and deal summaries and publish articles. Timely completion of administrative duties (i.e. PMOffice, feedback forms, workflow, trends, etc.) and adherence to customer service standards are required.
REQUIREMENTS
MBA, CFA or JD is required A Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Structured Finance The ability to work with Excel and Word and with Financial Data Excellent Verbal & Written Communications Skills The ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment The ability to analyze original, non-routine analytical/business problems in a timely and insightful manner.
