Accounting Manager Mortgages

Business Unit Controllers Mortgage Group of a Financial Services firm needs an Accounting Manager to Manage 2 – 3 staff accountants who are responsible for the reconciliation and reporting of daily p/l and month close for selected mortgage-backed securities (MBS) products, a possible combination of ABS, CMO’s, Pass Through’s, CDO’s and Commercials.
The duties include:
1. Analyze p/l movements, daily trading, and overall trading desk activity. Must have a through understanding of front to back office p/l process.
2. Verify validity of trading reserves and review results with senior management.
3. Monitor daily p/l adjustments and verify their validity. Review cost of carry adjustments, valuation reserves, and deal expenses.
4. Train and educate staff in MBS products. Chair weekly staff meetings.
5. Heavy, daily interaction with the trading desk. Meet on a regular basis to discuss the deal pipeline, trading strategies and revenues along with financial and operational support.
6. Additional special project/initiative work as needed. Automation of processes and financial spreadsheets.
7. Work with staff to create development plans, goals and objectives along with reviews.

REQUIREMENTS
A. At least 5-7 years fixed income product controllers and/or public accounting experience. Mortgage-backed product experience a strong plus.
b. Must have an accounting/finance/business degree. Accounting preferred, CPA a plus.
C. At least 2 years supervisory experience required. Must be able to work in a team environment.
D. Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
E. Must have experience with managing large-scale processes within tight deadlines.
F. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
G. Must be able to identify risk or potential exposure items.
H. Knowledge of FASB 133, 140 and EITF. Work with both the Regulatory and Accounting Policy groups.
I. Proficient in Excel. Candidate should be able to create daily spreadsheets, formulas and lookups. Writing and editing Macros is a plus.
