Accountant II

Company: North America Mining Job Function: Accounting/Finance Job Description: Major Responsibilities Under general supervision, performs moderately complex accounting and financial activities on complex accounts and funds in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and Phelps Dodge policies and procedures.1.Assembles moderately complex and interrelated financial statements; reviews and verifies the recording of expenditures, entries and postings to general ledgers; verifies books and bank statement reconciliation; monitors and develops monthly reports of revenues and expenditures for projects.
2.Reviews and interprets financial reporting requirements, rules and regulations.
3.Assists in analyzing financial operations and recommends enhancements to policies or procedures.
4.Assists with reviews and recommendations of new or enhanced automated financial statements.
5.Performs other duties as required.Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related area.

Three years accounting experience

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices of accounting.

Ability to use and interpret accounting terminology

Ability to maintain accounting records and report preparation using financial software

Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writingPreferred Qualifications CPA preferred.
Criteria/Conditions(specific background and skills)
Work is mostly performed in an office setting. Occasionally work will be performed in a mine, outdoor or manufacturing plant setting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.

Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 25 pounds) during the course of the workday.

Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing plant environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and other protective equipment as required.
