DIRECTOR, ADVANCED MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING

A large progressive manufacturing company located in the Midwest is searching for a Director, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. The company is a business unit of a $600M privately held manufacturer whose products include value-added injection molded plastic products requiring molding, plating, painting, various other decorating processes, and assembly operations mostly for the automotive industry. Manufacturing facilities are located throughout the United States and Asia.

Although the location is listed as St. Louis, MO, this position may be located at another location within the Midwest.

The Director, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering will manage, direct, and oversee initiatives regarding facility capacity planning, industrial engineering, Lean Manufacturing, and process improvement. Responsibilities include:

•Conducts, leads and manages complex engineering and technical support projects, develop new or improved techniques and procedures to accomplish assignments
•Develop formal project plans to include the proposed technical approach, budget and key milestones completion dates for all assigned projects
•Prepare department budgets, control expenditures to stay within spending limits.
•Provide planning, direct and coordination for technical activities associated with the production of the company’s products while achieving optimum use of staff, machines, materials and facilities.
•Collects capacity and constraint data using process roadmaps and inputs data into capacity planning tool used to compare demand with available capacity and constraint data.
•Participate with functional areas of the company to identify problems and needs.
•Initiates appropriation requests for major projects.
•Develops and maintains integration facility design, methods, procedures and processes to provide optimal productivity.
•Identifies best practice deficiencies and initiate and drive improvement projects across all plants.
•Will oversee the transfer of new products from development and prototype stage into manufacturing.
•Determine optimal plant facility for production of new parts and move current part production to most advantageous location as needed to optimize performance.
•Serve as Executive Project Manager and work closely with manufacturing on projects.
•Responsible for planning and directing the layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization.
•Responsible for implementing product/process changes into manufacturing.
•Direct corporate process engineers in supporting operations, continuous improvement, and new program development.
•Direct and follow-up on Lean Enterprise implementation in order to influence/change the actions and behaviors of associates to institute a Lean company culture.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have at 7 years experience in a senior level operations position and have the potential to manage multiple plant operations. Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred), and Six Sigma Green Belt or above training. Thorough knowledge of lean manufacturing and a track record of successfully implementing lean is required. Plastic injection molding, part design, and tooling knowledge required, along with VA/VE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) methodology.
