Summit Medical Center, Alta Bates Medical Center and Sutter Health completed their affiliation process in December 1999. Together as one organization, Alta Bates Summit Medical Center is the East Bay's largest private, not-for-profit medical center and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

Alta Bates?originally Alta Bates Sanitarium, an eight-bed hospital for women and their infants?was founded in 1905 by Nurse Alta Alice Miner Bates. Today, Alta Bates includes the Ashby Campus and the Herrick Campus, once known as Herrick Hospital and Health Center.

Summit Medical Center grew out of and continues the traditions begun nearly a century ago by Providence, Samuel Merritt, and Peralta hospitals. Summit comprises Summit North, South, and West Pavilions, the Providence Medical Office Building, the Peralta Medical Office Building, Samuel Merritt College, the Health Education Center and the Summit Medical Center Foundation.

Alta Bates Summit Medical Center is San Francisco East Bay's largest private, not-for-profit medical center with a total of 1,082 licensed beds. Each of our campuses has 24-hour emergency, obstetric and medical/surgical services in both Oakland and Berkeley. The Ward Clerk performs the non-clinical and clerical activities of the Patient Care Center.
REQUIREMENTS
High School graduate or equivalent. Minimum of one-year recent clerical experience required, preferably in a health-care environment. Previous computer experience required. Knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred. Knowledge of hospital systems strongly preferred. Able to read, speak and write in the English language.
