The Unit Secretary provides administrative support for scheduling, admitting, medical records, discharge planning, and secretarial functions of the department as well as limited patient related activities for the following patient populations neonates through adult. High school graduate or GED with 1-year general hospital experience preferred, on the job training.
Completion of a Unit Secretary course or medical records training preferred. One to three years clerical experience, preferred. Must have basic office management skills. Typing skills (40wpm) preferred.
Previous experience with medical terminology, metric system, drug nomenclature, admission, medical records, discharge planning, unit secretarial/administrative support preferred.
Language and reasoning skills required. Basic math skills required.
Ability to work with minimum supervisory guidance and exercise independent judgement (anticipates needs before they arise).
