Job Description:
· In coordination with the US Geological Survey National Mapping Program (NMP) Senior Government Computer Systems Administrator, the Contractor Systems Administrator (CSA) is responsible for supporting the NMP in analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving user identified hardware (PC or Unix), software, or network problems on either workstations or servers. Hardware platforms may consist of Sun and various PC brands, and software may consist of Windows XP or higher, Windows Server 2000 or higher, Solaris 9 or higher, and Linux.
· The CSA will interface with users, vendor support personnel, and hardware technicians.
· The CSA should be familiar with all technical support activities and be able to work independently on assigned tasks, with minimal assistance and guidance.
· The CSA must be willing to support assigned tasks during non-prime hours, if necessary.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
· Bachelors degree in an IT related field. Experience may be substituted for education with USGS approval.
· Two (2) years with the following operating systems: Sun (2.9 or higher), Microsoft Windows XP and Server 2000/2003, and Linux.
· Experience with SAN/NAS technologies (specifically Network Appliance and EMC) desired but not required.
· Experience with ESRI's ArcGIS/ArcIMS/ArcSDE or other mapping application servers would be a bonus.
· Good communication skills and cooperativeness with Government and other Contractor personnel.
Experience:
· Responsible for system configuration, system backup, software installation and maintenance, software license maintenance, utilization, and system performance for either workstations or servers supporting a variety of software application systems.
· Provides analysis support toward problem resolution for the NMP in software and system performance of production processing and system throughput. Makes recommendations and/or develops new procedures for problem resolution.
· Performs security audits on designated computer systems to ensure compliance with established USGS policies. Makes recommendations and/or develops procedures to reach compliance.
· Performs system administration, resource management tasks, and systems performance analysis on designated computer systems to ensure efficient use of computing resources. Makes recommendations to management concerning hardware/software upgrades for more effective system use.
· Troubleshoot and resolve network problems when they occur.
· Functions as an advisor in new systems development, representing the NMP's desires in the design, testing plan, implementation, documentation, training, and providing technical expertise, post implementation.
· Responsible for set up, configuration, implementation, backup, and management of production servers in support of NMP activities. This includes a contingency plan for recovery following a catastrophic system failure.
· Assists NMP in obtaining Security Certification and Accreditation of computer systems.
· Perform other duties and overtime as assigned.
