This position codes inpatient and outpatient medical records for reimbursement and statistical purposes under general supervision.
REQUIREMENTS
Education Required: Graduate from an accredited program of Health Information Technology and Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required. Certification as CCS or CCSP preferred. Maintains appropriate continuing education requirements and stays abreast of coding regulatory guidelines to ensure coding compliance. Keyboarding skills required to access patient records via computer at a level normally acquired through completion of basic touch typing courses. Ability to operate various office machines, computer and software packages required.Experience Required: Six to twelve months coding experience in a hospital setting preferred. Interpersonal and communication skills necessary in order to deal effectively with physicians, hospital staff and other medical records personnel in compiling data.
