Hanson Building Materials Company is seeking an organized Project Management Office Leader. This position is located in Dallas, TX.
You are empowered to evaluate the management of projects and identify the areas (charter, scope, staff, resource, schedule, risk, and finance) that either require additional definition or are not being sufficiently managed.
You will need to be comfortable working in a matrixed environment without direct authority, yet still responsible for the stated goals. You will be responsible for building up the skill base individually and collectively of the worldwide collection of those staff entrusted with project management. These staff extends beyond IT, and includes business unit or administrative employees assigned to a project.
You will be accountable to understand the status of active projects, and hence responsible for raising appropriate concerns as needed to your manager.
The ideal candidate will have a four year degree with ten years of project management experience and excellent organization and communication skills.
This position reports to the Hanson Information Technology Director of Global Business Solutions.

You will evaluate the management of projects and identify areas that require additional definition or are not being sufficiently managed.

Deliver superior and value-added projects by -
Providing weekly contact with all active projects for Hanson worldwide
Maintaining comprehensive status tracking of all projects
Creating and monitoring the performance metrics for the project management office (PMO) for routine reporting to key Hanson stakeholders
Ensure project compliance by -
Ensuring that all project briefs are being professionally run by their appointed project manager following Hanson specified methodology.
Increase project management discipline by -
Providing frequent mentoring of field staff involved with the management of projects, consistent with but not limited to PMBOK (project management book of knowledge) and common sense, proven delivery techniques
Providing regularly schedule sessions, including preparing the training material, coordination of schedules and a system of evaluation to identify areas in need of improvement
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of science (four-five year) in engineering from accredited university
Ten years of project management experience
Five years experience with managing software vendors
Five years experience with full profit and loss (P&L) responsibility
Proven track record of major project success (>$1M USD)
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, articulate and verify projects
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree from accredited university
Project Management Institute (PMI) certification
Department leader experience
Department level financial experience
Direct JD Edwards or SAP experience
Supervisory Responsibilities
Matrix authority is through dotted-line reporting structure
Scope
Up to 10 major projects to supervise
Up to 100 minor projects to track and correct as needed
Up to 10 field-based project managers as indirect reports
Up to 25 field-based business unit sponsors

Up to 50% global travel
