Provides clerical support, patient scheduling, registration, prepares and maintains Radiation Oncology Treatment records. Triages patient and physician requests and troubleshoots complex communication and scheduling issues.A.Patient Care Activities
1. Greets all patients and enters appropriate information in the computer system.
2. Schedules and confirms patient appointments including referrals and operating room scheduling.
3. Assists, as needed, with patient's transportation needs, communicates the patient's radiation schedule and any changes to all those who need to know.
4. Assists patients with registration and insurance questions and refers to specialists when needed.
5. Instruct patients on medical history forms.
6. Provides cross coverage to clinic assistant and assists patients physically as appropriate.
7. Others duties as assigned.B.Clerical Skills
1. Answers multi-extension telephone. Triages phone calls, using judgement to the nature and urgency of the call. Request assistance from Op Sup, staff nurse or MD's when needed.
2. Acts as liaison between nurses, physician staff, radiation therapist and other staff.
3. Prepares charts and ensures that all appropriate information is available in a timely manner.
4. Retrieves charts from the files for patients to be seen and reviews chart to ensure that all paperwork is present and in proper order. Places charts at appropriate treatment site.
5. Maintains patient records in a neat and orderly manner.
6. Utilizes the computer and develops increased skills on the BICS, Impac, CAS, and other computer systems.
7. Responsible for filing, mail distribution, photocopies, faxes, and maintaining medical record room.C.Supplies
1. Responsible for assisting in ordering, and stocking supply cabinets and maintaining exam rooms.
2. Picks up supplies, equipment and pharmacy orders as needed.
3. Serves as liaison and assists with the ancillary services and other departments that serve the unit.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be able to read, write, apply correct spelling and perform simple arithmetic calculations at a level generally acquired through a high school education.
2. Work requires effective utilization of recurring medical terminology, lab results, and specialized technical skills. This will be at a level generally acquired through a 4-6 week job specific orientation and training provided by the hospital.SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
1. Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel, and to interact cordially with patients and visitors, and demonstrate appropriate telephone etiquette.
2. Must have ability to independently set priorities and have good organizational skills.
3. Must have ability to adapt to changing pace in a unit with frequent interruptions
4. Must be very flexible and a team player willing to help out in any situation.
5. Must be able to handle multiple simultaneous requests with grace and efficiency.
6. Demonstrate a willingness to change functions as tasks become automated.
