Portfolio Management Office Leader

Hanson Building Materials Company is seeking an organized Portfolio Management Office Leader. This position is located in Dallas, TX.


You are required to organize requests for IT projects throughout Hanson worldwide. You will be empowered to evaluate project briefs and identify the areas that either require additional definition or lack proper business unit support. You will be challenged by having to manage without direct authority and establish a culture of excellence. This will be complicated by the vast geographic distribution of projects and the need to provide consistency for the initiation and approval process for new IT projects.


The ideal candidate will have two years of successful project management experience and five years working in indirect reporting relationships. The expectation is that you will deliver superior technology projects by providing technology project leadership, organization and guidance to the company and to internal clients.


This position reports to the Hanson Information Technology Director of Global Business Solutions.

POSITION SUMMARY

You will organize and deliver superior technology projects by providing technology project leadership, organization and guidance.


OUR EXPECTATIONS - YOUR RESULTS


Deliver superior and value-added projects by -


Providing oversight on all project requests so that needs are addressed more efficiently.
Working with key business process owners to pre-negotiate acceptable project needs, scope, requirements and sponsorship prior to the capital request
Developing metrics, measuring project performance and reporting the progress to key Hanson stakeholders.
Maintaining a comprehensive, documented understanding of all proposed projects


Ensure project compliance by -


Ensuring that all project briefs are being developed using Hanson project management methodology and all key aspects are sufficiently detailed
Contacting each business analyst and appropriate business unit staff weekly on the development of project briefs
Understanding the status of each project brief and tracking its progress electronically


Increase project management discipline by -


Providing informal and ad-hoc information and sessions
Providing project management training to new employees and providing refresher courses using traditional and electronic media
Communicating changes to the methodology.
Assessing the quality for work performed by staff and devising methods for improvement through training.
















MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires:


Relevant degreed experience
Two years of project management experience
Five years experience indirectly managing staff of at least six full-time positions, including internal and customer staff
Two years experience developing project requests, requests for proposals (RFP), requests for quotes (RFQ), etc.
Direct enterprise resource planning (ERP) experience in a large publicly traded corporation
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and present ideas and programs




DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelor of Science Degree (four-five year) in engineering from accredited university
Masters Degree from accredited university
Project Management Institute (PMI) certification
Department leader experience
Two years experience working with director, vice president or chief executive level staff, developing future IT plans
Two years JD Edwards or SAP experience




Supervisory Responsibilities


This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Matrix authority is through dotted-line reporting structure to five business analysts (two – United States, two – United Kingdom, one – Australia) and various business unit staff engaged in developing project briefs.




Scope


Up to 25 project major project briefs
Up to 400 minor project briefs (to track and correct as needed)
Up to five field-based business analysts (indirect reports)
Up to 25 field-based business unit staff, working on project briefs




TRAVEL

Up to 50% global travel
