Pension Customer Service Manager - Direct Hire Position
Classification: Temporary Compensation: $57,000 to $65,000 per year The Pension Customer Service Supervisor is responsible for performing the supervisory, professional and administrative duties to oversee the daily activities of the Pensions Division of the Customer Service Department. Ensures the timeliness, accuracy and quality of work performed and is responsible for ensuring that plan rules, regulations and practices are followed. This position is also responsible for managing workload issues, evaluating subordinate staff and developing operational practices, processes and procedures.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
1.Assistant planning, organizing and supervising the work of pension Customer Service division staff and teams involved in benefit inquiry and application processing, reconciling and producing the monthly pension payroll, processing withdrawal requests, maintaining and updating retirement account balances and processing new and terminating members.
2.Resolves benefit issues and assists with member counseling on complex or sensitive cases; may develop and/or present retirement education materials.
3.Performs day-to-day supervision of pension division staff working in teams, ensuring delivery of superior member services by providing guidance, training and development of subordinate staff and assisting on complex cases.
4.Develops and implements policies and procedures for the Division; assesses operational effectiveness and recommends changes when necessary; ensures benefit-related policies and procedures are followed.
5.Supervises the division of community property interests of members' accounts in marital dissolution cases.6.Establishes work assignments and performance standards. Interviews, selects, trains, counsels, and evaluates the performance of subordinate staff members; participates in hiring decisions, disciplinary actions and other personnel activities.7.Participates in identifying and solving departmental procedural problems, composes correspondence, statistical and narrative reports; provides verbal explanations of retirement benefits and options to members, retirees, employees and Unions as required.
8.Performs complex payroll analysis and approves adjustments, death benefit files, withdrawals, and other payment actions.9.Coordinates requisitions for services, supplies and equipment.
10.Interprets and carries out polices and procedures in accordance with ERISA, HIPAA, DOL, Plan Rules and SPD's.
11.Coordinates work within assigned areas; assisting in the development and implementation of changes to benefits, pension and payroll systems and processes; participates in identifying and solving departmental procedural problems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either I
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Economics, Human Resources, Social Work or a closely related field
ANDThe equivalent of five (5) years of full-time experience as either a Pension Customer Service Specialist or Customer Service Specialist, or other similar position.
Or IIThe equivalent of seven (7) years of full-time experience in a similar technical, supervisory or customer service position in another Taft-Hartley, corporate or public defined-benefit pension plan.
Substitution:Possession of the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist certificate and/or additional qualify years of experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.this is a direct hire opportunity for a union trust fund in Walnut Creek.
