Payroll Specialist

The Hours for this position will be Monday - Thursday 11am to 8pm and Friday 9:30am to 6:30 pm.
Apex Systems is searching for a Payroll Specialist to perform the following tasks as well as others as needed.*Timely and accurate data input to hire Internal employees, update salaries, taxes, addresses, direct deposit, garnishments, child support, terminations, and other personal and job data, time entry and special payment (bonuses, commissions, etc.) entry.*Verification and reconciliation of data uploads and/or interfaces from personnel management sources for Contractor employees and internal employee commissions and bonuses.
*Manual processing of corrections in pay, including reversing pay, preparing new pay and adjusting existing pay.
*Producing payroll by running pay calculations and confirmations; producing reports as needed for archiving records, reconciling and reviewing activity; produce new hire files, tax files, direct deposit files, and positive pay files, and transmit/upload to the appropriate vendor/bank; print checks and advices and prepare for mailing; consolidate branch mailings and insure overnight packages are sent on time.
*Communication and coordination with Branch Support Specialists, with occasional contact with Internal and Contract employees and managers, regarding correction of errors and issues discovered, ensuring data integrity and adherence to corporate policy, procedure and benefit plan documents.
*Provide guidance and assistance as needed, continually providing superior customer service.
*Actively participates in Payroll year end processing and W2 preparation; provides forms and documentation as requested, prepares management reports as requested, maintains files and records according to legal and corporate requirements, provide assistance as backup is needed or volume dictates, as well as other duties as they may be assigned.
*Provides feedback to management and staff regarding trends in processing problems as well as employee concerns and issues, as they are discovered and noted.
REQUIREMENTS
*The ability to work with limited supervision in often-stressful situations is critical.
*Superior oral communication and interpersonal skills required. Intermediate written communication skills are necessary.
*Detail oriented individual with excellent work/time organizational skills, as well as analytical and problem solving skills, essential.
*Basic data entry skills and the ability to navigate through Internet Explorer web sites are necessary.
*Basic payroll experience required 2-5 years preferred.
*PeopleSoft HRMS experience is preferred but not required.
*Basic Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word experience is preferred.
*Employee must be a team player with initiative and self-motivated; must be able to follow written and verbal instructions as well as interpret written policies; must be flexible to accept frequent change in priorities and possess the ability to coordinate tasks under critical time demands.
