The Services for Persons With Special Needs (SPSN) division is dedicated to serving individuals with developmental disabilities of any age. Support services may be provided in the consumer’s home, in their local community or in a foster-care, residential setting provided by Volunteers of America. All staff are supervised by professionally trained program supervisors who assist in setting up the support services and in training the direct care staff.

About This Position

This is a part-time PCA position available in the Milaca area including weekend hours.

The Personal Care Assistant’s (PCA)performance of duty as a professional is carried out in a disciplined and controlled use of oneself as one member of the treatment team. It is the Personal Care Assistant who takes the technical data from all professionals and persons involved in/with the PCA program and applies it in the daily living situation of the consumer. The care plan to be carried out with a Consumer is that established by the Public Health Nurse with the Registered Nurse being the person responsible for finalizing the care plan. Duties include:

Working with developmentally disabled persons.
Assisting in the implementation of the consumer’s treatment plan.
Recognizing behavior patterns, assessing and understanding the behavior patterns and needs of consumers, suggesting changes and revisions as needed.
Assuring that the living environment is safe and the consumer knows fire and severe weather procedures.
Effectively communicating with both the team and consumer.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Job Requirements

High School Diploma or GED (may be waived by supervisor);
A valid drivers license and insurance coverage;
Reliable transportation;
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
Ability to work with a diverse population of individuals by using tact, diplomacy and flexibility;
First Aid, CPR and medication certification may be required as part of training;
Must be 18 years of age or older.
