Medical Administrative Assistant Instructor
Under the supervision of the Center Director, performs duties associated with technical training in Medical Administrative Assistant: Introduction to Allied Health Care, Health Care Communication and Interpersonal Skills, Basic Principles of Health Care, Medical Records Systems, Computer Literacy for Health Care Professionals, Receptionist/Clerical Procedures, Computerized Accounting/Information Management Systems, Basic Principles of Accounting, and Work Experience.
Provides instruction; prepares lesson plans; works closely with training units to address individual student needs and to gather vocational math and terminology to better assist students in academic subjects. Incorporates job search skills by providing structured training in completion of job applications and in the development of technical phraseology to be incorporated in resumes and as preparation for job interviews; evaluates and documents students’ progress; participates in weekly unit meetings.
Provides administrative support as required and participates in planning and coordinating student activities; participates in promoting the CET mission and initiatives and in the accomplishment of the organization’s goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Conducts class, small group and individual training as required.
2. Develops lesson plans and demonstrates effective teaching methods and techniques.
3. Prepares written materials and handouts that are explicit, well-organized and legible.
4. Provides vocational English, job preparation, resume writing, interviewing techniques and job retention instruction.
5. Conducts skill information sessions for new applicants.
6. Utilizes dynamic approaches to engage all students in learning activities and multi-media to make training interesting and exciting.
7. Maintains an attractive, stimulating, professional atmosphere in classroom which is conducive to learning.
8. Interacts with students, co-workers and supervisors in a positive, cooperative and professional manner, at all times, so as to demonstrate to students a model of expected behavior on the job.
9. Conducts individual advising sessions; motivates students toward greater achievement in skill work performance and in maintaining good attendance. Promotes “self-help” attitudes and positive self-images.
10. Evaluates students’ progress in accordance with established standards and criteria.
11. Makes regular visits to the health care agencies to monitor trainee conduct and work experience performance.
12. Assists in job placement; conducts follow-ups at the required intervals, and forwards information to the MIS Department.
13. Plans and coordinates guest speakers and industry tours that enhance employment opportunities for students.
14. Maintains relations with Industrial Advisory Board and Technical Team members.
15. Collaborates with support staff to assess student and program needs; works as a unit team member for the guidance and development of every student.
16. Maintains attendance records, student files, including progress reports that may be shared with sponsoring agents.
17. Utilizes software programs to analyze, process, record, retrieve and verify statistical data, and to prepare training materials.
18. Evaluates, selects, and requisitions books, laboratory supplies, instructional aids, equipment, and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory.
19. Assists with planning and coordinating special projects and program events; participates in student recruitment activities and other CET initiatives.
20. Attends staff development trainings in California at least six days per year.
21. Maintains good organization and adheres to safety standards. Conducts regular inspections of classroom work areas and equipment and reports any hazardous conditions.
22. Performs other program related duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of modern technology and field related terminology.
• Knowledge of principles of student advising and training methods and techniques.
• Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate effectiveness of training and achievement of program goals.
• Knowledge of computer equipment operations and various software programs including, word processing, database management and spreadsheet applications.
• Knowledge of current safety standards related to a medical office environment.
• Exhibit sensitivity to a multicultural student population.
• Ability to work under pressure and exercise flexibility as needed. Act independently and exercise sound judgement; maintain confidentiality in all matters related to students.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to prepare and present reports and recommendations.
• Ability to analyze system reports to ensure accuracy and determine compliance with established performance standards.
• Ability to meet performance standards, and to plan and execute corrective action as needed.

REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED and a combination equivalent to five years industry experience in the pertinent field or a minimum of three years of hands-on experience and two years of major course work from an accredited college in the field related to assignment. Experience working with persons of diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
