Performance Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Dean of Mathematics, Sciences, and Health Professions, to maintain an open facility and coordinate activities in the nursing labs, including the skills, multimedia, and human patient simulator areas; to assist instructors of nursing in the preparation of instructional materials and in laboratory demonstrations; to operate and demonstrate specialized instruments and equipment; to manage lab and materials fees budgets including ordering, receiving, and monitoring balances; and to perform related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
a. Maintain an open and safe facility for student use.
b. Assist in laboratory set up, including mixing and dispensing solutions, preparing specimens, and creating helpful signs and handouts.
c. Set up of specialized instruments, equipment, and demonstrations, and assist with the demonstration of the proper operation of equipment, instruments, and supplies used in lab work.
d. Operate and instruct others in the use of audio-visual equipment.
e. Issue equipment and supplies to students and monitor when returned.
f. Monitor the working condition of all facilities, instruments, and equipment and either perform minor adjustments or call for the needed maintenance.
g. Provide information on resources available to students.
h. Demonstrate and maintain a check on safety procedures in the laboratory.
i. Direct students in emergency procedures and observe/enforce laboratory and student center rules.
j. Dispose of used materials and specimens and, in general, keep the entire facility neat and organized.
k. Supervise student assistants and coordinate requests of part time faculty.
l. Perform general clerical duties related to the maintenance and efficiency of laboratory and classrooms.
m. Schedule student skills evaluations if requested and assist instructors with simple record keeping duties.
n. Maintain records and documentation on supplies, instruments, and equipment, including human patient simulators. Note quantities of all supplies, where they are located and how to obtain them.
o. Create and maintain records of the different lab setups.
p. Use the District computer system to make purchase order requests and track items through receipt and payment.
q. Develop and maintain spreadsheets to monitor expenditures against the amounts allocated for each of the budgets used in the laboratories.
r. Operate District vehicles.
s. Work effectively with others in a team environment.
t. Perform other related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Faculty/Educational Administrators complete the Equivalency Application only if you do not meet the minimum qualifications for the position you are applying to, and you wish to be considered.
Knowledge of:
1. Basic familiarity with health care equipment and supplies.
2. English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
3. Standard computer software used in correspondence and record keeping.
4. Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
Ability to:
5. Learn to properly set up, operate, and demonstrate the correct operation/handling of materials and equipment used in the nursing lab.
6. Operate and perform minor routine maintenance to modern office equipment.
7. Compose correspondence and generally perform basic college level work.
8. Perform basic math.
9. Create and maintain records using computer-based tools.
10. Supervise the work of student assistants.
11. Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices may be required.
12. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
13. Establish and maintain effective cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Education and Experience:
14. Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required qualifications.
15. Two years of college level work is preferred.
Desired Qualifications
1. Experience in a health care setting.
2. Experience ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment, especially in a hospital, laboratory, or clinic setting.
3. Experience working with budgets.
4. Experience working in a team setting.
Conditions of Employment
This is a regular, full-time, 11-month per year position. The normal hours of work will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.

Pay Philosophy
Starting salaries for support staff positions begin at Step-1 of the salary range. The first salary advancement is at the end of the 6-month probationary period. Further advancements are on an annual basis.
Starting salaries for management and supervisory positions are based on a combination of education, qualifications and experience. Initial placement is within the starting salary range. Further advancements are based on initial salary placement.
Starting salaries for academic positions are based on a combination of education and experience. Initial placement is within the starting salary range. Further advancements are based on longevity and professional development. An additional annual stipend is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
Work Schedule
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday
Benefits:
The District provides a comprehensive benefit program effective the first calendar day of the month following the first day of regular employment. Persons employed at least half time, but less than three-quarter time, are eligible to participate in the insurance program. The District will share equally the premium cost for the employee coverage. Dependent coverage is available at a nominal cost. Part-time employees are also eligible to participate in optional group life coverage at their own expense. Other liberal benefits include, on an annual basis: vacation, 11 days the first year; sick leave, 11 days; holidays, averaging 12 days. Employees participate in both the Public Employees Retirement System and Social Security. Some benefits may be pro-rated for employees working less than 12 months per year or less than full-time.
