Summary: Receives cash from customers or employees in payment for goods or services by performing the following duties.
Expected Results: All qualifying Administrative Specialists should offer Payment Protection each and every time a it is applicable during a transaction. The expected closing rate should be at least 4%. Overages and shortages should be kept to a minimum.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: An essential job function of all jobs at Nebraska Furniture Mart is to attend work as scheduled. NFM is a dynamic organization. Accordingly, the responsibilities associated with this job will change from time to time due to business needs. Staff may be required to perform additional and/or different responsibilities from those outlined here.
Accurately tender cash, checks, bankcards, etc. while conforming to the Quality Standards. 85%
Computes or re-computes bill, itemized lists, and tickets showing amount due. Makes change, and issue receipts or tickets to customers. Record amounts received and prepare reports of transactions. Operates cash register by passing price coded items across electronic scanner to record price, compile printed list, and display cost of customer purchase, tax, and rebates on monitor screen. Enter correct payment and post to correct order of account. Answer Customer questions. Explain orders to customers. Share customer concerns with leads/managers. Process transactions in a timely manner. Performing Quality standards which includes: Knowledge and use of the credit link system (obtaining and entering credit information into the computer). Knowledge and use of the POPS system. Ability to find customer accounts and apply payments. Explain NFM revolving accounts to customers. Offer and sell payment protection to customers when eligible to sell through the state of Nebraska. Calling and welcoming customers to window. Summarizing sales order and explaining to customer.
Posting payments and end-of-day closing. 15%
Reads and records total shown on cash register tape and verify against cash on hand. Prepare cash bag for next day
Count cash and change in drawer. Tally checks, bankcards, gift certificates, etc. Research errors in the drawer

REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:
Acceptable credit check and verification with ongoing acceptable credit.
Working knowledge of computers required.
Six months of customer service experience preferred.
Six months of cash handling experience preferred (if candidate does not meet preferred requirement a proof reading test should be administered).
Knowledge of general credit information preferred.
Office/Clerical Experience: 10 key adder experience preferred.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Computer skills preferred.

Work Output: To provide fast, friendly, knowledgeable, and accurate check out experience for the customers by properly processing orders. This allows our customers to receive the correct merchandise as promised and NFM to receive payment for that merchandise.
