Healthcare - Underwritting Assistant
Classification: Temporary Compensation: Pay up to $17.00 per hour This position provides supervision to the clerical support function within the underwriting department, and supervision of the small group rating process. This position is responsible for coordination of the workflows for timely delivery of information to underwriters for large groups and for timely production of small group renewals.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Distributes monthly workloads to underwriting assistantsEnsures and improves timeliness and volume of production of each underwriting assistant through monitoring workloads and accuracy of information delivered to marketing and underwritersIdentifies and resolves evolving system needs to ensure no disruption in underwriting workflowsPrepares performance reviews for all underwriting assistants, as well as recommendations for hiring, discipline and corrective action plansRecords all incoming rate requests into a "Q & A" database used for tracking rate request statusUpdates status of quotes to track their status from initial requests, re-quote requests, finalization of rate and revision requestsThis process is also used to ensure identification of duplicate quotes and timely notification of such to the assigned underwriterProducing census data for all proposals including SPA is also involvedGenerates small group (2-50 employees) renewal rates from small group worksheet upon receipt of underwriting worksheetDelivers renewal rates to account, broker and appropriate marketing representative at least sixty days prior to the anniversary (renewal) dateOrders, collates and delivers large group (51+ employees) IRMA reports, including claims utilization and demographic data, and group files to assigned underwriter within seventy-five (75) days of an account's anniversary (renewal) dateOrders, collates and delivers large group IRMA and MC400 reports to Guardian Underwriters within five days of receipt of the monthly renewal list. Orders special IRMA reports as needed for Guardian renewalsMaintains an accurate renewal database, including underwriter assignments, accounts by renewal date, marketing representatives and dates that the renewal information was delivered and the date the renewal was completed and sent to account managementUpdates department case list when any changes occur. Runs database lists for Business Decisions Report (BDR)Copies and files completed new business proposal and renewal documents while maintaining files in the prescribed FHS formatCoordinates documentation for new groups, obtaining group numbers, plan codes, and all other required informationNegotiates and communicates with field personnel on renewal rates, timing, and outstanding renewals and plan adjustmentsCalculates all manually rated quotations from Account Executives within three business days of log-inOrders all IRMA and MC4000 reports for assigned Middle Market manual renewalsReviews profile from Account Manager on selected alternatives and interact with Account Manager on renewal strategy and alternativesCalculates assigned Middle Market manual rates. Provides cover letter to Account Manager on these renewalsExpands existing Microsoft Access Quotation log database to accommodate BDR data, Inventory turnaround time and other data elements to consolidate data retrieval.
