HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST
The HR Generalist is responsible for managing a range of activities related to employee/labor relations and staffing functions. Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Directs classification plans and programs, coordinates preparation of position descriptions, and oversees job evaluations.
• Administers and interprets various labor agreements, administers grievance procedures; acts as a liaison between department managers and union representatives; provides advice and counsel to managers and supervisors regarding personnel practices, policy, and employment laws; administers unemployment insurance processes; and recommends policy changes to the Vice President of Human Resources.
• Directs the development of staffing strategies; develops and builds hiring processes for a variety of levels from temporary staffing to supervisory level; develops, streamlines and enhances staffing systems, tracking reporting, and analysis; leads sourcing and recruiting initiatives and processes to leverage networking and employee referrals; manages relocation, immigration and other responsibilities related to staffing administration; ensures compliance with all state and federal discrimination and employment regulations.
1. Partners with employees and management to communicate various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations.
2. Conducts exit interviews and analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team.
3. Responds to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints. Understands need for escalation to VP, HR.
4. Represents the company for any unemployment claims.
5. Facilitates and/or provides orientation to the new hire workforce.
6. Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.
7. Interviews, screens, and recruits job applicants to fill entry level, professional, and technical job openings.
8. Reviews applications and interviews applicants to match experience with specific job related requirements.
9. Maintains working relationship with Union officials and adheres to terms of labor contract by monitoring day-to-day implementation of policies concerning wages, hours and working conditions.
10. Represents management in investigating, answering, and settling grievances, by arranging and scheduling grievance hearings between union personnel, supervisor and the Management team. Understands need for escalation to VP, HR
11. First point of contact for all EEOC and/or NLRB charges. Understands need for escalation to VP, HR
REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Human Resources Management or related field, and five to seven years of experience at a management level with emphasis on employee/labor relations.
• Ability to manage and administer a broad range of tasks including resolving complaints, counseling managers and employees on the interpretation of policies, procedures and union agreements.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices human resources management and supervision in a union environment.
• Ability to prepare written reports and correspondences, and presentations to senior leadership as required.
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally.
• Extensive knowledge of applicable state and federal employment and labor laws and governmental compliance requirements, knowledge of immigration laws and processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Extensive knowledge of information technology, including hardware and software applications, used in the Human Resources function.
• Proven leadership.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
• Ability to maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting for extended periods of time and operating assigned office equipment, and other duties as assigned.
