Conducts original research related to Museum collections; seeks financial support to further research and/or support Museum programs. Maintains active scholarly publication record. Conducts field work to improve and enhance the collections; assists with collection management procedures; analyzes and provides identifications of specimens. Participates in general departmental operational planning which includes planning and development of immediate and long term goals and objectives. Ph.D in systematic botany with some experience.CULTURAL COLLECTION TECHNICIAN
Cares for and maintains the collections and associated records. Processes specimen transactions to ensure that additions to and deletions from the collections are in accordance with Museum and department policies and procedures. Assists in the identifying and recording of collections according to departmental and disciplinary standards to enhance access and retrieval of materials for study and exhibition; maintains storage systems. College degree with 1 -2 years experience
SCIENCE EDUCATOR
Develop and present science and culture programs Bishop Museum and Hawaii Maritime Center; outreach programs to K- 12 schools throughout the state; teach enrichment workshops, develops teacher guides on science topics. Education experience in formal or informal settings, advanced degree in science or equivalent experience preferred.
CULTURAL EDUCATOR
Present Hawaiian/Polynesian cultural programs for school groups and general public. Present cultural outreach program throughout Hawaii. Strong background in Hawaiian culture, proficiency in Hawaiian Language required. Dramatic storytelling, public tours and school programs among primary duties. Education experience in formal or informal settings
ACCOUNTING OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR
Responsible for managing day to day operations and insuring that the Museum’s business is conducted in compliance with Federal, State and Local laws, regulations and statues; insuring accounting is conducted in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Supervises staff, Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting, minimum 3 yrs progressively responsible experience in accounting; excellent excel and Microsoft Word skills, oral and written communication and project management.
ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE ANTHROPOLOGIST
Ph.D. in anthropology, specialty in Polynesian (especially Hawaiian) archaeology, evidence of research excellence, record of publication and grant writing in the research, and an active research program in Polynesia. Conduct field research in Polynesia or Hawaii and working with Bishop Museum’s archaeology collections. Effective January 1, 2007EXHIBIT PREPARATOR
Designs and fabricates mounts for artifacts that reflect sound conservation practices, sensitivity to design aesthetics, and competence in varied mount-making techniques. Some trade school, two – three years experience.
ASSISTANT DESIGNER
Produces exhibit designs specifications requiring knowledge of and skill in two and three dimensional design; designs, fabricates custom mounts and props; assists graphic designers with graphic design and production. BA, BF or educational equivalent in a related field. Three years experience with design and production of exhibits
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Duties to include: taking reservations for outreach programs, accounting, purchasing, managing department records, and coordinating travel arrangements and meetings. 1 – 2 years Administrative Assistant experience.
PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER
Employee will assist PR & Marketing Director in executing public relations portion of marketing strategy and in attaining its fiscal goals. This team player will be tasked with initiative that execute PR campaigns that align with the overall marketing strategy including leveraging public relations opportunities to position Bishop Museum and it’s sister properties in local, national, and international markets. Assist with corporate development, event planning and execution, and maintaining sound administrative support Marketing Department. Bachelor’s degree, strong writing skills in both journalistic and business writing formats, some sale & customer service experience, team player, flexible to work some weeknights & weekends, car w/proof of insurance.
MARKETING MANAGER
Employee will assist PR & Marketing Director in executing marketing strategy and in attaining its fiscal goals. This team player will be tasked with initiatives that execute marketing campaigns that align with overall marketing strategy; develop new and maintain existing sponsorships and relationships with corporate partners; execute quality signature events; and maintain sound administrative support to Marketing Department. Bachelor’s degree, ability to work collaboratively with multiple internal and external customer, strong writing skills in both journalistic and business writing formats, flexible to work some weekends and evening events, car with proof of insurance.GREETER/CASHIER
Position is responsible for admission sales transactions and cash register operations. Accounts for cash in drawer and balances cash and sales at the end of each day. Records and reports daily sales transactions as required by policies and procedures. Stays current on exhibits and special events information; welcomes and directs visitors into Museum. Must have excellent customer service skills; flexible to work some evening and weekend events. With minimum 6 months customer service experience; F/T & Casual positions
MEMBERSHIP & ANNUAL GIVING COORDINATOR
Bishop Museum seeks a dynamic, motivated, organized and enthusiastic individual to join its Membership and Development Team. The membership and Annual Giving Coordinator will provide support for the membership and annual programs, including special events for Museum members and donors. Responsibilities include coordinating monthly membership renewals and monthly e-newsletter for members; assisting with the development and processing of direct mail pieces; providing support for the Museum’s planned giving major gifts program; drafting member’s donor correspondence and thank you letters; providing assistance in planning and executing member and donor events; assisting with gift and membership processing; and coordination division’s volunteers. Minimum 2 years experience in an administrative setting that includes data entry, document handling, and a comprehensive understanding of database functions. Bachelors degree or equivalent.
