General Ledger Clerk

POSITION PURPOSE: Performs the daily reconciliation of general ledger accounts. Prepares journal entries and account reconciliations. Researches and explains variances. Participates in the monthly close cycle, reviews end-of-month reports and communicates with other departments and field operations to resolve issues.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepares and enters journal entries.
2. Requests standard reports and/or report sets. Maintains, organizes and files reports.
3. Reviews reports, prepares correcting entries, and explains unusual activity to management.
4. Monitors and verifies validity of entries uploaded into Oracle from various sub-systems. Reviews month-end reports and summaries generated from these systems. Works with other departments to resolve errors or problems and process corrections.
5. Routinely responds to inquiries from operation personnel including market managers, field consultants, store managers, franchisees, merchandise accounting and external suppliers. Researches and seeks resolution of issues.
6. Performs month-end close for assigned area/function.
7. Reconciles assigned accounts and prepares appropriate reconciliation reports and performs appropriate follow-up to clear balances remaining in the accounts as required. Prepares and presents account reconciliation reports in formal meetings with Senior Accounting Supervisor.
8. Processes various deposits.
9. Performs other related duties as requested by management.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
Position requires a high school education or equivalent plus additional accounting-related courses and 2-3 years of accounting experience. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Position requires computer skills to create standardized documents using word processing and spreadsheet software and to key data into and generate standardized reports from Oracle general ledger system. Position requires a moderate degree of skill for frequent operation of office equipment (50-60 wpm typing).
