Airport Ramp Agent

Purpose: Airport baggage handlers load, unload and store luggage and freight on to planes and conveyors. Baggage handlers use conveyors and lifting equipment to move the baggage onto trucks for transportation to and from aircraft.


Hours and Environment

Baggage handlers work around 35 to 40 hours a week. They work on evenings, weekends and holidays. Some work 12-hour shifts. The job is Full time.

They work inside in terminals and warehouses, and outdoors in all weathers. Working near airplanes can be noisy.

Skills and Interests

To be an airline baggage handler, you should:

* be able to lift 70 lbs
* be able to work quickly
* be able pass seven year criminal background and drug screen




Company will run security checks through customs on all employees who work in airports and the company will run drug screen.

Must have a clean driving licence.

Baggage handlers need to live near by airport or have their own transportation. Public transportation is not available to airport.




Training
All employees go through a two week paid training. During the training the pay is 6.75 an hour. After the training pay will be increased till 9 an hour.
After probation period is over the pay increases to 9.25 an hour.


New employees are taught how to use conveyors, bar code recognition equipment, lifting equipment and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. They also receive training in health and safety, and security procedures, and learn how to identify airline and airport codes.Classification:Direct HireCompensation:
