AVIATION SUPERINTENDENT
RECRUITMENT DATES September 11, 2006 – October 6, 2006.
SALARY $65,478 - $97,718 annualized.
EXPERIENCE Requires five years of experience, including three years in a supervisory capacity, in airport maintenance such as terminals or airfields; airport operations such as Airfield/emergency operations landside, parking or security management; airport administration such as tenant relations, project management, or event handling; or general aviation airport management and/or administration; and a bachelor’s degree in airport or business management, or a related field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Experience working as part of project teams, managing large projects, and contract management is highly preferred. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
DUTIES Responsible for overall management relating to airfield or facilities maintenance, airport operations, or a comprehensive security system for the Aviation Department. Incumbents are responsible for: handling labor management issues; staff development programs; and coordinating activities of the division with other Aviation divisions and multiple government agencies to ensure optimal safety, customer service, efficiency, productivity, communications, and planning. Responsibilities may also include: coordination and directing staff/consultants efforts in the planning and development of aviation facilities; airport safety and security; administration of parking and public roadways; general maintenance functions and/or services; and supplies functions. The Aviation Superintendent reports to a Deputy Aviation Director or Special Project Administrator. Vacancies are located in the APM Project, Operations and Facilities areas. Currently there are three vacancies in the Aviation Department.
ALSO REQUIRED All positions in this classification require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record. All positions in the Aviation Department will be required to pass a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check, and a City of Phoenix or other law enforcement agency fingerprint check prior to hire. Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required. Some positions may also require additional security clearance.
RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.
