Join the Sylvan Team and help students develop the skills to do better in school and the confidence to do better in everything else.Sylvan is seeking part-time independent contractors for day, evening and weekend tutoring in the areas of basic math, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Calculus, Reading, English, Writing, History, Social Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Study Skills and Foreign Languages. As an Independent Contractor of Sylvan One-on-One Tutoring, you will enjoy the flexibility of managing your own schedule as well as competitive contractor compensation.


Sylvan Contract Tutors will provide one-on-one tutoring in homes or convenient locations to students in kindergarten through grade 12. The tutor interacts with the Sylvan Director, the student and the student’s parents and will be expected to travel to the student’s home or a location that is convenient for the parent and student.


Sylvan will provide you with the support of the Sylvan network and experience. A local Sylvan center will market the program to parents of prospective students and provide you with the names, addresses and other pertinent information. Sylvan will also handle all the billing and payment processes and resolve customer concerns and complaints. With the support of Sylvan, you are free to focus on what you really want to do: teach.


As an Independent Contract Tutor, you will be responsible for:Completing Sylvan Orientation
Ensuring compliance with Sylvan Policies
Interacting with the Sylvan Director to develop a personal plan for the student and parent.Your student interaction will include:
Delivering tutoring sessions using student’s homework, test, curriculum, etc.
Working with student for understanding and retention and providing additional exercises as needed
Praising student with sincere and warm enthusiasm.Your parent interaction will include:
Scheduling tutoring sessions
Conducting discovery sessions with the parents to understand the parents’ goals
Meeting with parents to provide progress updates. REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree, with subject matter expertise. Previous teaching or tutoring experience is required. Also requires a teaching certificate to tutor elementary reading. Must be computer literate and have daily access to a computer with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and an email address.


Excellent customer service skills and strong communication skills are required. Must be able to establish rapport and effective relationships with parents and students, be highly motivated to work with students and maintain flexible hours to accommodate parent and student schedule needs.


Satisfactory references and the ability to pass a background check are also required.
