Taxi Driver

THIS IS AN ON CALL POSITION
Pay rate: $12.44/hour
Short Term, max 1000 hours


NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB
Plant Engineering has an opening for an on call taxi driver. Under minimal supervision will drive a variety of vehicles including commercial motor vehicle (bus) and light passenger vehicles in support of the Fleet Management’s taxi section transportation requests. Interacts with a variety of high level managers and visitors. Reports to First Line Supervisor of the Taxi Section.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
•transportation to senior laboratory management, VIPs, and distinguished visitors. This includes providing transportation support required by the Protocol Office.
•operate two-way radio to communicate with Dispatcher.
•inspect assigned vehicle routinely, noting any mechanical deficiencies. Also wash exterior and clean interior of assigned vehicles.
•serve as relief dispatcher which includes dispatching taxis to passenger pickup points through the use of two-way radio.
•pick up passengers at points referred by Dispatcher.
•operate paratransit wheelchair lift.
•Shuttle vehicles to different locations


MARGINAL DUTIES
•Record the number of passengers transported and mileage accumulated.
•May act as courier for classified documents.
REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
•Excellent driving record.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to use tact, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with customers.
•Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at one time.
•Knowledge of Bay Area streets, highways, and airport locations.
•Knowledge of use of two-way radio or ability to learn.
•Knowledge of traffic directions via internet.
•Driver must be available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITITES
•Commercial driving license (P endorsement).
