Tax and Licensing Accountant

The Tax and Licensing Accountant ensures government compliance for state and local tax matters through the accurate and timely preparation of returns. This position also ensures that all licensing requirements are met for all of AMF’s domestic and Puerto Rico operations. The position requires excellent communication skills for interaction with various government agencies and company representatives. All work is subject to strict filing deadlines that must be met to avoid costly penalties, interest or loss of licenses for the Company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Prepare and process weekly, monthly, and quarterly multi -jurisdiction sales, use and other tax returns, including monthly downloads into the Company’s tax software program.•Prepare and process multi-jurisdiction business, liquor, gambling, and other licenses for bowling centers.•Research and resolve state and local tax and licensing issues. The Company has continual research needs for changing laws and regulations as well as Company strategic initiatives.
•Prepare correspondence with government agencies and company personnel.•Prepare annual personal property tax returns and assist in reconciliation for payment of property tax bills.•Prepare monthly account reconciliations for tax and license accounts.•Assist in the preparation of documentation and research for tax audits.•Prepare, organize and maintain tax work papers documentation including documentation of work flow and processes.•Prepare other special assignments as required.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/AJob Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The environment is fast paced and the individual must have the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to complete projects timely and accurately.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and two years business experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.COMPUTER EXPERIENCE: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook). Ability to conduct research using the Internet. Experience with CorpSales or a similar software program preferred.COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Strong written and verbal skills are necessary in order to interact with internal and external personnel ranging from center managers to local tax and license authorities.
ANALYTICAL SKILLS: Strong analytical skills including reading comprehension. In addition to analysis of accounts, the position requires technical research regarding tax and licensing legislation. It is important that the individual is able to interpret the results of research.
