Job Description:
Ernst & Young’s National Tax Department (NTD) serves high-profile, national and multinational clients and is led by nationally recognized tax professionals who represent some of the firm’s most senior tax talent. We provide a range of domestic and international transactional tax planning services and tax-related advisory services. National Tax includes top tax practitioners--many have held policy-making positions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and on the staffs of Congressional tax-writing committees. The combination of knowledge and experience forms the basis for National Tax's ability to help clients analyze the effects of tax law and regulations and to assist clients in determining and implementing appropriate tax planning. We currently have a career opportunity for a Senior Manager in our National Joint Venture & Partnership group in the following locations: Washington, DC, Houston, TX, and Los Angeles, CA. This individual leads and manages multiple and challenging tax engagements to deliver quality tax planning services for our diverse clients. This position offers excellent opportunities for teaming, leadership and career advancement to the right candidate. Responsibilities Demonstrate an understanding of increasingly complex tax concepts and strong technical partnership tax skills, and effectively apply tax knowledge to client situations. Provide high-quality services and "time-sensitive" advice that meet and/or exceed our clients' expectations. Prepare internal memoranda, written products provided to clients, private letter rulings and other documents for submission to the IRS or Treasury Department, and review partnership agreements. Prepare quality, practical approaches to the client's tax situation and arrive at appropriate conclusions. Build client relationships and demonstrate knowledge of client business. Help to develop and guide staff and other junior tax professionals by providing effective performance feedback and ensuring team responsibilities are consistent with skills and developmental goals. Build on technical competence by keeping up to date on trends, developments and technical authorities and apply them to moderately complex situations. Demonstrate professionalism through a positive and cooperative attitude and by maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of client relationships and related work products. Contribute to the overall success of the team by developing a thorough understanding of EY methodologies and tools to enhance service delivery; keeping team members informed of work status; actively seeking assignments when unassigned; proactively seeking opportunities to provide tax services; challenging traditional procedures used in the past; and attempting to find effective approaches.Ernst & Young LLP, an equal opportunity employer, values the diversity of our work force and the knowledge of our people.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: To qualify, candidates must have: a bachelor's degree, preferably with an emphasis in accounting, finance, economics or a related field (an advanced degree in tax or law is highly desirable) CPA certification and/or a JD a minimum of 7 years of relevant tax experience or equivalent experience in business strong technical writing skills broad exposure to federal income taxation, with emphasis on partnership taxation excellent managerial, leadership, organizational, and verbal communication skills demonstrated business development skills
