Job Scope:Assists the Tax Director with the tax function, including reporting, compliance and planning.Requires the ability to prepare Federal and State Corporate Income Tax returns and the ability to gather the information necessary to prepare accurate and complete filings. Also includes preparing other corporate tax filings including, but not limited to, Sales and Use Tax and Property Tax returns.Requires strong tax accounting skills and the ability to prepare Tax Provisions in accordance with FAS109.Develops and assists with the implementation of planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities.Requires strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to influence others to achieve results and the ability to work independently.Relies on experience, judgment and strong organizational skills to plan and accomplish goals in a multi-company environment.Key Responsibilities:(1) Preparation of Federal, State and Local tax income returns, Sales & Use tax returns and Real/Personal Property Tax returns. Also includes Foreign Informational Reporting requirements and the calculation of Federal and State tax credits.(2) Calculate / prepare tax provisions/FAS109 calculations and estimated tax payments for federal and state income taxes, and franchise/excise taxes. This includes preparing monthly general ledger tax account reconciliations and the preparation of related journal entries.(3) Perform tax research (factual and technical), as well as prepare tax research memorandums on various positions. This would also include assistance with state and local nexus inquiries and state and local industry verification questionnaires.(4) Identify, research and analyze tax issues and planning opportunities. This includes recommending strategies to minimize tax liability by understanding the business/operations, studying tax law and proposed legislation, and searching out tax opportunities. Also includes determining the tax impact of management's decisions, and communicating findings, as well as preparing special tax related analyses and reports, by collecting and analyzing financial data and information.(5) Assist Accounts Payable and Purchasing in determining Sales and Use tax liabilities and promote communication between departments to ensure that they are kept up to date on tax law changes. This includes training and advising on Sales and Use tax matters, as well as the preparation and maintenance of tax exemption certificates.(6) Provide assistance and guidance to Tax Director on payroll tax related matters by researching and/or analyzing issues, proposing appropriate solutions, and ensuring registration documentation is prepared and filed as required.(7) Communicate with associates at various levels of the companies to explain, examine and exchange information regarding taxes and ensure that the tax function is SOX compliant.(8) Maintain tax technical skills by keeping current with new tax laws and proposed tax legislation, attending tax and related seminars, reviewing professional publications, participating in professional societies, and establishing personal networks.(9) Assist with ensuring that the tax function, in conjunction with accounting, is compliant with the requirements and procedures established under Sarbanes Oxley ('SOX'). This includes maintaining tax internal controls by recommending and documenting tax policies and procedures.Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting and at least 5 years of Public Accounting Tax Experience (Big 4 or large second tier firm), or private industry equivalent, which includes Federal and State Corporate Income Tax experience as well as knowledge of FAS109/tax accounting. CPA (or working towards a CPA) or MS in Taxation Required.Requires strong communication skills, both written and oral. Must be a motivated self-starter who works well independently.Requires hands on experience with the income tax compliance (preparation of Federal and State Corporate Income tax returns), research, provision (FAS109) and audit needs of a large corporation (preferably manufacturing). Must currently use or have used computer tax compliance software applications. Requires the ability to work independently on complex Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Ability to learn and master new software packages quickly.Proven ability to handle confidential information with tact, diplomacy and discretion. Demonstrates a positive attitude, commitment and initiative in an ever changing multi-company environment.
