Staff Accountant-Fixed Assets/Capital Projects

SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for managing capital expenses and associated fixed asset records in SAP for the Information Systems department. Duties include, but are not limited to:
•Analyzes the capital plan and creates the budget in SAP
•Tracks spending from budget to acquisition to installation and prepares monthly reports
•Meets with business partners (IS Dept) on a regular basis to ensure project information is current and to develop and maintain relevant policies and procedures
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Analyzes the capital plan for correctness and creates the budget in SAP.
-Reviews invoices to ensure they are coded to the correct budget, and that they are properly classified as capital expense.
-Monitors, reconciles, and controls capital project budgets. Presents monthly reports to the business area represented.
-Organizes and guides meetings with project business owners.
-Allocates IS equipment to new stores. Performs monthly analysis of new store assets in CIP to physical inventory at off-site facilities.
-Analyzes purchase order accruals for reasonableness and adjusts as necessary.
-Monitors depreciation accounts for reasonableness and performs annual assessment of obsolete assets.
-Prepares audit schedules as necessary.
-Develops and produces ad-hoc reports to facilitate Director/Management requirements.
-Trains new team members and business partners on SAP policies and procedures.
-Researches P&L issues for stores

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting from a four-year college or university, and minimum three years experience. Accounting for capital projects in an IS environment is preferred.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
•Ability to demonstrate intermediate skills and knowledge in Fixed Asset Accounting
•Ability to demonstrate intermediate skills and knowledge in Project Accounting
•Ability to demonstrate intermediate skills in MS Excel and Access
•Ability to demonstrate an intermediate knowledge in SAP
•Ability to demonstrate outstanding analytical and communication skills with the ability to "style-flex" according to the situation
•Ability to demonstrate strong organizational skills
•Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and follow-through
•Ability to demonstrate self-motivation
•Must be a team player
BUDGET RESPONSIBLITY:
Shared Responsibility - This position has direct responsibility shared with one or more individuals that clearly impacts the budget for capital expenditures.
BUDGET DIMENSIONS:
Works with business partners to assess capital expenditures in accordance with company policy.

MAJOR CHALLENGES:
Must have an extensive knowledge of the cap-ex policies and procedures to help guide the business partners. The Capital reports are analyzed and distributed to the business each month. This process requires thorough knowledge of the projects/budget so errors are easily identified and corrected. This position works with all levels of management to identify areas out of plan, provides solutions, and identifies areas of concerns.
Travel is required, as necessary, to train on new project systems being implemented. Work schedule is flexible to conform to the needs of the business and close cycle.
