Sr. Inventory Accountant
MetroPCS Inc. was formed in 1994 to provide an affordable, simple to use wireless service for customers in metropolitan areas seeking an alternative to traditional landline or wireless service. Our rapidly growing company is seeking an experienced Senior Inventory Accountant.
This position will be responsible for properly recording monthly inventory and cost of goods sold entries to ensure that the financial statements are reported properly and inventory levels are tracked accurately. Responsible for maintaining corporate and market inventory balances. Also responsible for aiding in the documentation of business requirements for the development and maintenance of databases, reports, and automated processes for use by inventory accounting department personnel to track, report on, and record journal entries related to handset and accessory inventory. Participation in testing of newly developed processes is also required.
REQUIREMENTS
Principal responsibilities:
Prepare monthly journal entries to record inventory purchase receipts and transfers.
Prepare monthly journal entries to record cost of goods sold and revenue transactions for inventory items (handsets and accessories).
Prepare monthly accruals.
Prepare monthly and quarterly variance analyses and fluctuation analyses, as well as reasonableness tests, as required, to ensure that account balances are accurately maintained.
Maintain average unit cost schedules for inventory items.
Prepare monthly trend analyses for various inventory related activities for management reporting.
Reconcile inventory related accounts on a monthly basis.
Work with the markets to resolve any inventory discrepancies and questions they may have related to the recording of inventory transactions.
Work with various vendors to resolve issues related to shipments, receipts, invoicing, and reporting discrepancies.
Ensure that proper documentation exists that proves all inventory purchases were received in the warehouse and are in good condition.
Create and maintain various standard and ad-hoc reports for use by Corporate and Market management for tracking and monitoring inventory transactions.
Assist internal and external auditors in preparing schedules and pulling back-up documentation required to address audit requests.
Assist with the documentation of business requirements for and testing of newly developed automated processes to assist inventory accounting with streamlining workload and to ensure that historical and current data is received and loaded into databases in a timely and efficient manner and that inventory is properly tracked and can be reported on and recorded in the financial statements accurately.
Participate in the documentation of business requirements and change requests necessary for proper maintenance of existing databases, reports, and automated processes used by inventory accounting personnel to track, report on, and record journal entries related to handset and accessory inventory. Participation in testing of process changes is also required.
Develop requirements for process enhancements and test newly created items to ensure accuracy and appropriate accounting treatment.
Complete various special projects as requested.
Advises and trains staff level inventory accountants to ensure work is performed accurately and timely.
Participate in Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance activities, including procedures documentation and/or updates, evaluation, remediation, walkthrough and testing/re-testing phases, as applicable.
Education / Experience:
Minimum:
Job knowledge, technical accounting skills, creativity and innovation, initiative, strong communication skills, ability to work independently, strong problem solving skills, professional judgment, flexibility, adaptability, strong analytical skills, and PC skills, specifically using MS Access and Excel, in addition to being familiar with the entire MS Office Suite. Some level of inventory accounting experience required. Excellent PC skills are necessary, specifically designing relational databases utilizing MS Access and MS Excel in addition to being fluent in the entire MS Office Suite. Experience with and knowledge of SQL Server, as well as strong analytical and mathematical capabilities, are needed. Experience in the telecom industry is required. Ability to communicate with all levels within the organization, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision also required.
Minimum:
BS/BA in Accounting or Finance and 3+ years accounting experience and experience in corporate database environments, Access development, SQL programming/query development, and ad-hoc report development.
