The Settlements Manager is responsible for back-office accounting, to ensure timely and accurate trade capture, accounting, and settlements with counterparties.Job Summary:
Sr. Accounting Analyst will assist in evaluating and overseeing technical accounting matters for Constellation NewEnergy Power, including the accounting for derivatives and hedging activities.Reports To:
Constellation NewEnergy - Assistant Corporate ControllerPrimary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Participates in developing and overseeing the design and implementation of processes, systems, and controls to ensure that accounting for derivative instruments and hedging activities reflect leading industry practices and ensure compliance with SFAS No.133.
2. Maintains the documentation for the application of the normal purchases and normal sales exception, cash flow hedge accounting, and fair value hedge accounting by CNE Power.
3. Works closely with the front office and operations personnel to keep abreast of product offerings and hedging strategies and advises management on the appropriate accounting for contracts.
4. Assist in preparing periodic training materials regarding the requirements of SFAS No. 133 for management, operating personnel, and other accounting personnel at CNE Power.
5. Keeps abreast of accounting pronouncements and other guidance that may impact the financial performance of CNE Power. Assists with the analysis and implementation of new or existing accounting pronouncements that affect CNE Power.
6. Assist in the monthly close process with respect to derivatives accounting matters.
7. Prepares position papers for accounting and reporting issues.
8. Interacts with internal and external auditors on derivative and hedge accounting issues.
9. Assist Financial Planning and Analysis Group in analysis of financial results.Job Specifications:Knowledge:
Proficient with automated accounting and management information systems.
Proficient accounting professional with proven experience in a large corporate environment , public accounting firm, or financial institution including experience in month-end closing, familiarity with multi-company accounting consolidations and inter-company transactions.
Solid financial and technical accounting background, including the analysis and application of accounting principals for transactions. Experience with SFAS No. 133 regarding the accounting for derivatives and hedging activities is preferred.
Working knowledge of standard office computer applications (spreadsheets, documents and presentations).Skills/Abilities:
Strong analytical skills / business person with the ability to provide input on various aspects of the business both operational and financial, including experience researching complex issues requiring both interpretation and the exercise of judgment. Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of the company, including gaining support from management regarding technical accounting matters. Demonstrated ability to persuade senior executives and motivate and influence individuals not under their direct supervision.Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with professional accounting experience.
CPA is required.
Relevant Master’s degree is a plus.
Retail energy business or related industry experience is a plus.
Minimum of four years of corporate experience of comparable size and complexity or public accounting dealing with large corporate clients.
