Senior Director of System Administration

The Senior Director Of System Administration will manage 3 Directors, 40 direct reports, 3 System Administration Groups Worldwide (Massachusetts, New York & The United Kingdom.

There will be travel to London 4 times a year, more in the beginning. Travel to NY (day trips by train/plane).

The Director of System Administration will provide hands on leadership and management for a team of system and database administrators. The position requires a thorough understanding of and experience in IT Best Practices and mastery of current technologies for system administration.

The successful candidate will be a skilled manager capable of directing a business critical, global department in daily production activities while leading change and professional development to enable effective use of new technologies and techniques.

Responsibilities

· Provide management and technical leadership to the systems and database administration staffs.

· Provide systems and database solutions that are business sufficient in a 24X7 real time data intensive operation

· Provide clear task prioritization to balance immediate and long term requirements.

· Lead the group in developing high-quality and efficient practices.

· Continuously improve staff’s capabilities and effectiveness.

· Work with internal clients to effectively support evolving requirements.

· Lead effective assessment and management of risk during change.
REQUIREMENTS
· 10 to 15 years experience in leading System and Database Administration groups.

· 5 years group management experience with strong motivational skills.

· Experience in management of high-availability business-critical production systems.

· 5+ years Linux experience in a commercial IT environment required.

· Experience administering open-source components supporting production applications.

· Experience administering NAS/SAN.

· Experience with remote administration and monitoring.

· Experience with IT best practices including change control, patch management, etc.

· Excellent project planning and project management skills; ability to work with business, finance and development groups in all project phases

· Demonstrated record of success in project completion, reliable system implementation

· Ability to manage and track budgets

· Strong knowledge of systems and database technology and industry trends in these disciplines, with demonstrated ability to translate these trends into tactical and strategic plans that benefit the organization

· BS degree in CS or similar

Pluses
· Red Hat / RPM experience.

· Scripting (Bash, Perl, Python) experience.

· Experience with global organizations and global management

· Experience with any of the following technology areas: high availability, disaster recovery, capacity management, directory services, storage systems, hardware platforms, Oracle, Sybase, other commercial and open source software packages, backup/recovery systems

· Experience with financial markets, financial market data information systems

· MS degree in CS or similar
