Retail Accounting Assistant Manager - Fuel Accounting

Wawa Accounting and Finance Department is recruiting for the position of Retail Accounting Assistant Manager - Fuel Accounting. In this role, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following:

- Manages the daily, weekly and period-end workloads of the Fuel Accounting staff such as fuel store audits, reconciles supplier and carrier invoices with related bills-of-lading and vendor account reconciliations. Ensures deadlines are met in a timely manner and audited information meets Retail Accounting’s high quality standards.

-Supervises and prepares the periodic balance sheet analysis for fuel inventory and liability accounts, general ledger account reconciliations and fuel vendor reconciliations which includes coordinating with the Tax department with respect to fuel tax accruals and related account reconciliations.
Identifies and researches the proper accounting treatment for complex fuel and fuel-related transactions such as derivative transactions.

-Performs or supervises all analysis and reporting for the Fuel Accounting group, ensuring that all reporting practices are in compliance with GAAP for external reporting and internal business requirements for internal reporting. These include the fuel mark-to-market analysis and various other fuel related analysis, as well as information for inclusion in the quarterly and annual MD&A and Quarterly Shareholders’ report.

-Proactively assesses the ability of our fuel and financial systems to support our current and future fuel related activities and create added functionality to improve efficiency and accuracy of the Fuel Accounting group. Initiates efforts to upgrade fuel accounting systems, when appropriate. These systems include FuelSmart, Excel, SolArc RightAngle and SAP.

-Reviews existing processes, procedures and controls and suggests improvements to create efficiencies and strengthen internal controls. Develops and maintains documentation of all such processes and procedures.

-Supports new and alternative Fuel Procurement initiatives. Develops new or refined business and accounting processes and works closely with the Fuel Procurement, Corporate Accounting, Tax and Risk Management Departments.

-Develops, maintains and analyzes quality improvement metrics to ensure that Fuel Accounting procedures provide actionable information through continuous process improvement, superior customer service and accurate concise and useful reporting.

-Reviews, documents and enhances processes related to store level and Fuel Procurement data entry compliance as it relates to Fuel Accounting’s audit and reconciliation procedures and report on such compliance.

-Recruits, hires and develops associates. Reviews departmental procedures, coaches associates and seeks opportunities to streamline and simplify. Encourages the use of new technology, cross-training and improved processes to enhance job performance, job satisfaction and organization skills.

-Supervises associates and manages workloads to maintain compliance with accounting and reporting deadlines and to ensure critical functions are performed in a timely manner. Expedites workflow with a focus on enhanced teamwork and the establishment of clear standards and policies to enable increased efficiency.

-Bachelor’ degree in Accounting or related business discipline

-CPA or MBA preferred

-Seven years or more of accounting and reporting experience; Strong accounting research skills; Minimum of two years of public accounting experience

-Four years or more supervisory experience; Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team in achieving strategic goals and objectives

-Demonstrated analytical and reporting skills; Fuel Accounting or Commodities Accounting experience preferred

-Excellent interpersonal, communication, strong written and verbal presentation skills

-Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills

-Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment, accessing all levels and functions in the organization

-Proven multiple project management skills and experience

-Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products especially in Excel; Quick to learn fuel-related and other systems such as FuelSmart, SolArc, RightAngle and SAP
