Reinsurance Accountant
OMFN is seeking a Reinsurance Accountant to participate in all phases of reinsurance accounting and reporting, from the initial phases of treaty development, coordination with third parties, monthly processing and recognition of appropriate assets liabilities, income and expenses items and periodic reporting. Key accountability for this position will be Oracle processing and analysis, reconciliations of account balances, and reinsurance audit support query capabilities. This position will have a key role in maintaining this function for the company. Other accountabilities include processing information for approximately 100 treaties, 675,473 policies, 17 reinsurers and vendors, and $859 million in reinsurance premiums per year. This position will be a supplemental contact for actuarial, financial reporting and outside reinsurance vendors and insurers, facilitating the proper coordination with those constituents; this position will be expected to support, as directed, portions of the accounting and reporting requirements for single purpose reinsurance treaties. The individual is required to have an understanding of the routine reinsurance processes, the types of treaties and arrangements in place, and strong analytical skills to self-review the outputs from these activities. The position will work independently to produce accurate information, and for meeting predetermined deadlines. The position may require other miscellaneous duties that are derivative of the above.
Responsibilities will include:
•Participate in many aspects of reinsurance accounting and reporting, from the initial recording/coding of treaties to weekly/monthly processing and accounting/reporting;
•Work with the manager to facilitate related audits from reinsurers, and for completing audits for reinsurance assumed with 3rd parties;
•Reconcile reinsurance accounts on a monthly basis. Take steps necessary to get corrections completed.
•Prepare the accounting and reporting entries and reports for Annuity type and non TAI treaties.
•Assist Manager with strategic direction of the Reinsurance Department through active participation and company initiative, committees, new product implementations and special projects.
•This position will interface with actuarial valuation and reporting from time to time, process invoices, and prepare initial reports required as part of routine internal and external, GAAP, management and statutory reporting
•The individual is required to gain an understanding of the underlying reinsurance processes, the types of treaties and arrangements in place, and be analytical, to self review inputs and products of his/her work.
•The position will be accountable for working within predetermined deadlines, and must keep abreast of appropriate developments in financial reporting and reinsurance software.
REQUIREMENTS
The Reinsurance Accountant position will require a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field is required. 3 to 5 years of accounting, financial reporting, or similarly relevant experience (within the insurance industry preferred).
The successful canidate will have; Solid mathematical, analytical skills and attention to detail is needed; Able to produce in a fast-paced production environment while addressing multiple projects and responsibilities; Strong systems knowledge, database, spreadsheet, and word processing software proficiency required; and knowledge of TAI and SAS preferred;
