Private Equity Finance Manager

Chicago based private equity company is seeking an experienced, hands-on Finance Manager with strong communication skills and an “A to Z” management style The Finance Manager is responsible for working with portfolio companies of the investment fund. The Finance Manager must be able to quickly develop an understanding of the organization and its portfolio companies’ operational characteristics, business drivers and culture. The position reports to the CFO.

This position will work closely with the CFO to accomplish the following:
1. Works directly with each portfolio company to strengthen the portfolio company’s accounting functions in the areas of:
-Cost accounting and management reporting
-Accounting transactions
-Timely & compliant financial reporting – externally & internally
-Banking relationships including cash management and compliance
-Budgets and financial forecasts
2. Coordinates compliance with lending institutions for each portfolio company.
3. Assists portfolio companies when specific situations arise that require forensic accounting.
4. Coordinates and oversees annual financial audits and tax compliance of each portfolio company.
5. Acts as a resource for internal and external vendor resources and references for portfolio companies.
6. Provides advisory services and guidance to portfolio company finance teams.
7. Supports CFO in due diligence of acquisitions of portfolio companies.
8. Assists with formulation of portfolio company monthly reporting packages; coordinates the monthly delivery of the financial reports.
9. Analyzes monthly accounting reports provided by portfolio companies. Along with the CFO, interprets the financial impacts on each of the businesses and assists in the preparation of summary statements for the Partners.
10. Provides periodic reports on the portfolio companies’ financial controls and process, including recommendations for improvements.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA, 5+ years of experience with ideally at least 2 years auditing experience. Computer proficiency especially spreadsheet software and accounting software, strong analytical skills and proven work ethic are a necessity. Travel required to existing portfolio companies and to potential acquisitions.
