Job Description

Direct a team of 4 analysts responsible for reconciling payroll withholding and related tax and withholding balance sheet accounts and calculate and prepare variable compensation accruals. The team is responsible for reconciling approximately 118 complex accounts with month end balances in the range of $170 million.

Responsibilities may include:

•Develop a thorough understanding of the firm’s business transactions and internal systems and processes to understand impact of activity in payroll balance sheet accounts
•Review all reconciliations, ensuring quality and financial accuracy
•Ensure compliance with Firm Policy 1139 and Sarbox controls
•Understand payroll accounting as a whole — including effects of imputed earnings
•Recommend necessary adjustments to be GAAP compliant
•Resolve complex issues outside of analyst scope
•Modify processes as needed i.e./ Cyborg
•Work with other teams to bring awareness to continued discrepancies and how they might be prevented in future. Understand front end processes and how they can be improved upon.
•Escalate material or serious issues to management along with possible solutions to resolve the issue
•Utilize very strong written communication skills to be able to reflect issues in the account and portray complex accounting functions in a manner understandable to non-finance personnel
•Streamline or automate processes with various technologies to reduce time and/or increase quality
•Establish processes for new scope work and determine methodology for reconciliation
•Work on requirements gathering and testing for new applications
•Be able to read and understand various payroll-related tax returns to the IRS and various state and local tax bodies
•Provide monthly statistical reporting to management
•Complete quarterly work papers and variance explanations for applicable accounts
•Ensure processes and procedures are documented and updated to allow for cross training and for internal control support
•Participate in both internal and external audits on an as needed basis, providing supporting documentation, process flows and analysis
•Ensure all personnel issues are handled expediently and consistently
•Prepare personnel evaluations and reviews
•Perform one-on-one meetings with staff member and provide regular feedback
•Conduct monthly team meetings
•Participate in special projects as needed such as system conversions or enhancements, acquisition of new scope of work, and other projects, as needed

REQUIREMENTS
Must-Have Skills/Qualifications:
•2 to 4 years experience with accounting reconciliations with supervisory experience
•Accounting/Finance degree with several years accounting experience and some supervisory experience
•CPA preferred
•Strong understanding of US GAAP Strong analytical and problem solving skills
•Strong organizational skills
•Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills
•Strong technical skills with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access), including familiarity with more complex formulas (vlookup, sumif, sumproduct) and the creation of macros using Visual Basic.
•Experience developing Access databases, including the building of forms and queries. The ability to create macros and modules in Access is a plus.

Nice-to-Have Skills/Qualifications:

•CPA
•SAP experience
