Outstanding Controller Needed For Development Unit W/In Firm

TITLE: Controller, Business UnitREPORTS TO:Senior Controller - Accounting
I.POSITION PURPOSEResponsible to direct all phases of accounting management for business unit(s), partnership(s), or project(s) within the Development Segment; to review and revise established accounting policies and procedures; to handle special projects requiring research and analysis of complex accounting issues; for all tasks necessary for the management of a functional team; and to advise senior management in Business Unit Accounting on all operational mattersII.ACCOUNTABILITIESMay be responsible for one or more of the following:•Oversee the accounting for one or more functional areas of the Development Segment
•Ensure all recorded transactions are in accordance with GAAP or other required accounting standards including FIN 46, FIN 45, FAS 98, FAS 150 and EITF 04-05
•Maintain and establish documented internal controls and policies and procedures
•Design and implement new processes or process improvements as deemed necessary to comply with Development related GAAP pronouncements and section 404 of Sarbanes Oxley.
•Perform and assist with profitability analysis and financial decision making; perform/coordinate special accounting and financial projects and analyses as requested•Identify/evaluate complex technical accounting issues; reach sound conclusions; generate alternatives and understand consequences
•Ensure that internal and external audit requests are completed accurately and timely
•Hire, supervise, train, and develop accounting staff and maintain knowledge in the day-to-day functions of direct reports in order to perform their duties, train others when necessary, and troubleshoot issuesIII. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS•Bachelors degree or equivalent to appropriate 4-year college program in accounting or related discipline, CPA with 6+ years industry or public accounting experience, or a non-CPA with 7+ years related experience; or any similar combination of education and technical experience•3+ years managing and developing professionals with proven ability to motivate, manage, and lead employees
•Working knowledge of GAAP accounting pronouncements impacting the real estate development industry including FIN 46, FIN 45, FAS 98, FAS 150 and EITF 04-05
•Strong understanding of partnership and consolidation accounting
•Strong ethical standards; exhibits sound and accurate judgment when dealing with routine and non-routine issues
•Familiarity and adherence to standard accounting principles; ability to follow established policies and procedures•Strong computer software application skills (i.e. Microsoft Office, an integrated financial software such as CTI, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards)
•Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with managers and leaders across the company•Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service
