This includes assistance with the preparation of all period financial statements and reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), general ledger controls, preparation of balance sheet reconciliations, assistance with period-end close, assistance with recurring requests from Corporate Accounting, assistance with internal and external audits, and analysis of financial results for assigned areas. This position will communicate frequently with personnel at all levels within the Financial Service Center (FSC) and the various operating groups. The consistency, accuracy, and timeliness of this communication are vital and must clearly convey all outstanding issues.This position manages the accounting activities for their assigned Retail operating group(s), which represents a portion of total Retail with gross sales of approximately $9.8 billion, PBT of approximately $825 million, and covers a business with approximately 47 brands. In addition, this position will have responsibility for the balance sheet for their assigned Retail operating group(s), which represents a portion of total Retail with total trade working capital of approximately $835 million. This role will manage a team of approximately 6. This position also has the authority to approve transactions to the general ledger for their assigned Retail operating group(s). In addition, they will have regular access to confidential financial data.
Maintain controls over accounting transactions to ensure the accuracy of the general ledger.
Prepare internal and external financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Supervise period-end close and consolidated financial reporting to Retail and ultimately Corporate.
Coordinate and play key role in internal and external audits.
Complete requests from Retail group and Corporate accounting in timely and accurate manner.
Manage and develop general accounting staff by providing the necessary guidance to properly develop and advance their careers within the organization.
Assist plant accounting in adhering to policies and procedures and in resolving problems encountered in performing their daily business.
Coordinate and review all balance sheet account reconciliations and continuously perform an aggressive review of the Retail balance sheet.
Serve as the central point of contact for all accounting issues for assigned Retail operating group(s).
Ensure all accounting transactions are properly recorded in accordance with GAAP as well as in accordance with policies and common business language as defined by Corporate Accounting.
Assist in the implementation of corporate initiatives and maintain sound financial policies and procedures.
Evaluate effectiveness of processes and procedures and develop improvements as needed.
Participate in special projects involving general accounting, such as mergers/acquisitions, FASB updates, and business systems conversions.
Coordinate the closing of numerous financial systems and identify and resolve unusual items and issues in a timely and accurate manner.
Serve as primary contact for assigned Retail operating group(s) between operations, operating groups, Retail, Corporate and FSC.
Exercise judgment in financial, operational, or transactional analysis to identify and help resolve issues.
Handle multiple activities simultaneously and appropriately delegate work to staff to ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks.
Functional involvement in change management is frequent and eminent.
Manage and foster professional development of general accounting staff.
Communicate to all impacted parties and maintain a constant flow of critical information with all levels with the organization (FSC, Retail operating groups, Retail, Corporate, etc.).
Alert management of situations that may adversely affect the company's overall financial condition.Bachelors degree in accounting required
CPA, CMA certification and/or advanced degree preferred
7+ years of business experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, manufacturing, etc.
1+ years of mangagement/supervisory experience required.
Project management or project experience strongly preferred.
Previous management experience preferred
Strong communication, organization, and planning skills
Strong project management skills
Ability to research and reconcile multiple accounts with minimal supervision
Proficient PC skills. Excel required.
Experience with the one or more following systems a plus; Oracle, SAP, Peoplesoft, Access, JD Edwards, Lawson.
