Hours: F/T 40 hoursPerforms data quality reviews on inpatient records to validate ICD-9-CM diagnosis and procedure codes and DRG assignment to ensure quality coding/abstracting and compliance with all regulatory mandates and reporting requirements are met and prepares a summary report of audit result findings. Identifies target populations requiring focused compliance auditing. Works with Data Manager to develop coding specific guidelines. Coordinates external coding audits for inpatient records. Works with the Clinical Documentation Specialists to provide DRG and coding education to physicians and other clinical staff. Coordinates on-site coding and compliance education and training for staff. Researches and monitors healthcare regulatory standards and attends relevant coding workshops to keep abreast of new and changing technology. Performs focused projects related to coding. Assists with coding of inpatient records when necessary to maintain dropping of bills.As a teaching hospital, Hartford Hospital is a primary affiliate of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Dentistry for both graduate and undergraduate medical education.

REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of three years of inpatient coding expertise in an acute care hospital. A thorough knowledge of ICD-9-CM diagnosis and procedure coding and DRG assignment is required. Excellent analytical, customer service and written and interpersonal communication skills are necessary. Candidate must possess proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Word and Excel. A CCS, RHIT or RHIA Coding certification is required.
