GAAP Specialist

The D. E. Shaw group, a specialized investment and technology-development firm with approximately US $23 billion in aggregate capital, seeks a manager of accounting policy with specific expertise in GAAP to fill a newly created, high-visibility position. The successful candidate will work closely with the firm's CFO, senior executives, and external auditors to research, develop, and implement optimal accounting and reporting policies in a rapidly changing regulatory environment. The GAAP Specialist will also assist with the preparation of financial statements for the firm’s many investment companies, with special emphasis on financial statement disclosures and related special projects. Strong technical, interpersonal, problem-solving, research, and communication skills are essential, as is strong knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Familiarity with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or with accounting standards in other jurisdictions is a plus. A CPA or CA with five to ten years of relevant accounting or corporate finance experience in financial services or at a Big Four firm is preferred, but not required.
