The Federal Tax Services (FTS) group of Washington National Tax Services (WNTS) primarily provides client and practice office support in the areas of Federal income tax accounting methods and periods. Members of the group have extensive experience in the areas of timing of income and deductions, accounting for intangibles, capitalization vs. expense issues, contract accounting, LIFO and inventory accounting, application of the uniform capitalization rules, accounting for research and development costs, accounting for environmental costs, and cost recovery issues. The group also has developed a number of innovative tax planning opportunities for the deferral of income and the acceleration of deductions. The FTS group services clients in all industries.As part of the FTS practice, this director or manager work with the Metro region FTS practice consulting primarily with Metro region clients on all aspects of tax accounting methods and periods. In this role, the director or manager will respond to requests for assistance from clients and practice office personnel on general tax accounting issues, identify and implement tax accounting planning opportunities, and perform accounting method and inventory studies. The position also will entail developing relationships with clients and practice office personnel; managing multiple tax accounting projects; researching, writing, and analyzing technical tax accounting issues; following and reporting on current tax accounting developments; interfacing with the IRS Chief Counsel’s office on client ruling requests; and participating in the AICPA’s Tax Accounting Technical Resource Panel task forces to submit comment letters to the IRS and Treasury Department.
